Hey, am new here of course.
I'm Alex, 19, female.
I only have a basic point and shoot camera right now but am hoping to upgrade to either a Canon EOS 40D or Nikon D80 [I'm completely torn.. can't decide which is the better camera!] once I'm settled in a decent paying job.

My main focus right now is self portraits and I'm a member of the 365 days project on flickr. My "thing" is living, breathing, moving, thinking and feeling things. Mainly people and animals.
I haven't had much of a chance to delve into "real" portrait photography as I want to wait to do them justice with a DSLR.

Oh and before I forget, I also have a Minolta film SLR but haven't had a chance to really get into using it properly.

So.. that's me!

I would go for the Canon as it is easier to get hold of second hand equipment and is support my more shops etc personally (actually thats what I did go for an why tbh).

Look forward to seeing some of your photo's in the future.

Nikon and Canon users are pretty polarised around here, very loyal to their own brand. The best advice I've seen is to get down to a camera shop and spend as much time as you can handling both makes and see which feels right for you. You can then make an unbiased decision... AS LONG AS IT'S NIKON!!

I went out to buy a Canon 12 months ago and bought a Nikon because it felt right to me....... don,t neglect the film though.
