I started bird photography earlier this year and was doing quite well. I was building up a nice collection of species and was enjoying getting out and about. I found a few local nature parks and there were birds everywhere, but since the leaves came on the trees and the birds have stopped nest building, I find I'm out for hours on end and not managing to press the shutter much. It's got to a point where my choice is either shooting ducks and pigeons or going home with nothing. They must be out there but I'm struggling to find them.

It can be very difficult Neil,I have the same problem at my local area, especially during nesting time, just stick with it and your patience will be rewarded, just keep getting out there, they will make themselves visible to you eventually,we sometimes have to slow things down and be extra vigilant, all the best Bill.

Get yourself down to Pennington Flash in Leigh. They've a few great hides, including a cracking one for woodland birds that happily feed a few feet from your face :)

Look on the bright side Neil, in a few weeks you will have a lot more birds the photograph and being juveniles they may be more approachable too. Last May we were getting shots of a little owl, nothing spectacular, but shots. Then,by around mid to late June and right through until September we had shots down to 20 ft or so of the same owl, his mate and his 3 off spring ,so stick with it mate.
