I'm using CS4 and I'm new to all things photoshop/post processing (I'm trying to get to grips with layers and masks at the moment) and I'm having a problem collating pictures together. For example I have 5 pictures open, 4 of them I have converted to black and white with the adjustment layer panel, and now I want to copy the new black and white pictures onto the 5th picture to make a collage.... why wont it work?? it just copies over the original un changed picture. What am I doing wrong or do have to flatten them or save them with the new adjustments then pull the picture together? surely not...

Grrrrr :bonk:

I'm guessing your on the wrong layer? you need to be on the b+w layer before copying it across.

flatten the b+w image (otherwise I think I'm correct saying your just pulling parts[layers] of the image), then simply drag it on top of your other picture and it should appear on a separate layer. You wont be able to see the image underneath it of course, unless you re-size the top later image or adjust the opacity so you can see whats going on in the layer below

I think you will have to flatten them. When you drag images onto another canvas it drops them onto a separate layer. You can't have a layer with layers. Best option, save the individual images as a PSD file as this preserves the layers. Flatten and then copy over. If you need to rework any image you've got the PSD file with layers intact to work with

Are you working with a duplicate layer turned to B+W or just an ajustment layer affecting your original background layer?
