Help with PSE 8 Please

Think I've pressed a button I shouldn't have :bang:

I want to convert a photo to a chalk or chalk n charcoal or pencil drawing using PSE8 . I managed it a while ago but now when I open the filters section & click on the aforesaid changes all I get is a white blank sheet of paper where the photo was ?
If I try to convert to neon glow it works ok & likewise with chrome .
Have clicked to reset all effects panels but no joy

Any one any clues as to what I need to do ?

The only way that would happen under normal circumstances is if you have a adjustment layer active.

Only just discovered what an adjustment layer is !

Sorted now thanks to you
