Can someone point me in the right direction please?........

I took some shots in the garden of my kids today and actually managed to get one of my son and daughter together and for once they weren't strangling each other :nono:

The problem is that although the exposure is right (checked it in levels), one half of my sons face is brightly lit by the sun. Is there anything I can do about it?

I've got the trial version of Elements so I'm not sure if that restricts any of the functions available.

Thanks.

Post an example an let the nutters on here play away.....they can work wonders........

As Tom's said, post an example. If we can recover it, we will.
Hopefully all you'll need is a bit of a curve (Elements needs a free add in for this I think) or exposure adjustment and a bit of delicate layer masking ;)

If you've shot it in RAW, you've got even more chance of recovery!

Lets see it, and we can make some suggestions on how to fix it.

Not posted any photos before so hope this works!

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I had a very quick play but the right hand side of his face is pretty overexposed too - pretty hard to get it balanced and still looking natural imo, especially working with such a small file.

I'm not an expert though.

Don't save it as a gif file for starters. jpeg at least.

Think it was the way I linked to flikr (not done it before!) :bonk:

Does this work any better? The file should be jpeg not gif?

Thanks all!

It's badly blown.

To recover it, you'd have to effectively paint in the missing parts by hand as it's all white, or so close to white as to be unrecoverable. Because of the large area that's blown it's not going to be a simple matter of patching a few hotspots.

Because the blown areas are white, adjusting exposure or curves then masking it out just gives you grey, not flesh tones.

You may get better looking results by lifting the shadow areas of the childrens faces instead of trying to repair the blown area.
