Edit My Images
Yes
There must be a simple answer to this. I have photoshop elements 3 and when editing an image using a mouse or tablet i cannot find a way to lock the position of the image. I mean that if a select a portion of the image and want to continue to select a bit a little higher, lower, sideways the image slidesoff the canvas and i have to select fit image to screen to bring back to filling the screen and start again. Sorry if the description above is garbled.

Fingers crossed there is an easy way to avoid this. Cheers

I do not have elements but I tried with CS3 and if I select something I then click on SELECT>Transform Selection and I get a boxx around the selection with dragable size adjusters (eh?) on the corners and sides which enable me to adjust the size of the selection.

Hope this helps. Hope it works in elements 3

Thanks for the quick reply but its not the selection size thats the problem its the lack of control of the pointer when i reach the edge of the image, at the edges the pointer will track past the image meaning the image 'slides' off the screen, should i accept this cannot be prevented and use the actual pixels image??

I think I know what you mean, if you hold down the space bar your cursor turns into a hand then you should be able to drag the image anyway you want, release the space bar and carry one with your selection.
Hope that makes sense

Sorry about that as i read it it makes no sense either!!.

basically when i have 'fit on screen' the image fills the middle of the screen but and the whole image is visible edge to edge.

Now if i want to select something, using a lasso for instance, that verges towards the edge of the image when dragging the lasso towards the edge of the image the window sliders start to move and parts fothe canvas not covered by the image come into view and the image starts to be moved out of view.

what i had hoped was that if i use fit on screen, that this image would be locked into that position so that if i gonear the edge to image wont shift.

Hope thats clearer, i think it is but i am not v.good at decribing it!!

Right.

Now having played with this for half of the day (a little porkie pie ) I think  I may have solved it Moriaty.

By the way this is where I do not describe myself well.....

Open PS (whichever version)

Makesure you expand PS to fill the whole screen

Then open image

Then click view>fit screen (or Ctrl+O) (learning as I go)

Then expand the open document and..................

Voila, this should stop your selection sliding off the side again.

I have a 22" screen though so I hope this has nothing to do with it.

please be right, my swede is done in!!!!!!!!!!!

You must have done your head in and i am really grateful, but.... it still does this on my computer!!!!!!!

Mate please dont go and bash your head as i cant work out why it does it either!

Maybe its time to upgrade to cs3 or pse6?!!!!!

:'(

Seroiusly though thanks for your help.
