Help with paypal refunds pls.

Hi all.

I'm a bit baffled. I've received two refunds for faulty items ordered on ebay which I returned and I can see the two amounts as credits in my "recent activity" but my paypal balance in the box above "recent activity" is zero. What I want to do is transfer the two refunds into my current account but I can't see any way to do it.

What am I missing? Or, does it automatically go back on my card or to my current account? I have no idea :D

When I have had a refund on PayPal, as it is linked toy current account after a few days it is automatically add to my current account.

Is your PayPal linked to your current account?
 
Simply having your current account linked doesn’t mean that monies are transferred automatically.

It depends on how the payment was funded. If you paid with funds already in your PayPal account then refunds will go back to your PayPal balance. If you funded the payment using a debit or credit card then the refund will go back to that card.
 
Paypal refunds are made to the original payment method used, either your Pay balance, your current account or credit card....

I pay by credit card so I'll leave it a few days and then I'll check my card and also just to be sure I'll check my current account too.

I'm sure I've transferred money from paypal to my bank account before but maybe that was when selling things and being paid into paypal.

Yes. If you get paid the funds will sit in your PP account until you use or transfer them to your account. Refunds will be credited back to the funding source you used to pay via PayPal.
 
You might not see the refund on your card for a while as the c/c companies like to sit on the funds for as long as they can get away with. I had a sum refunded recently that took 7 working days to hit my c/c account after the merchant had authorised it. Amazing how a payment goes through instantly but a refund moves at the speed of a drugged sloth isn’t it? :rolleyes:

A payment doesn't go through immediately either.

When you swipe your card or enter card details into a website the details are sent to the your bank or card issuer for authorisation. If the card is authorised then the funds are put on hold for up to 7 days. You will usually see this as a "Pending payment" in your account.

Only when the merchant requests payment (usually when goods are shipped), that request is sent in a batch at midnight by the Payment Service Provider to your bank. The funds are released and transferred to the merchants Merchant Account. Then, depending on the relationship between the Merchant Bank and the merchants business bank it can take anywhere from 2 to 7 days before the funds are finally in the merchants bank account as useable money.

The same goes for refunds, just in reverse.

The refunds did eventually appear on my credit card statement, they just took some time to appear.

That was ebay. I recently had to return something to Amazon and spent time looking for the refund. "I only got the "refund" when I bought something else and it was knocked off the bill.

Wouldn't it be great if we had places we could go to and buy things in person and speak to an assistant if it all went wrong? I think I remember places like that existing when I was a kid. I think my mam called them "shops." I wonder what happened to them?

You would of chosen the means of refund and will have chosen to have it refunded to your Amazon account rather than your method of payment.

I always choose method of payment and usually have the payment within 30 minutes of logging the parcel with the courier/drop off point

They now do daft things like wire up all the coats so you cant try them on with out asking an assistant who rather than just undo the wire wants to know your life story and sell you something you dont want.:mad: Needless to say I left without purchasing.

One of the annoying things about Amazon is that options are buried and difficult to find. I have no idea if such an option exists or where it may be located and I have looked.

Both Amazon and Ebay have massively disappointed me in recent times, Ebay because of the avalanche of faulty or wrongly described items and Amazon because of their misleading delivery estimates for example I ordered something recently which stated next day delivery yet the email I received after ordering stated 10th July. I'm just sick of things like this happening with Amazon.

1. Refund to your Amazon Account.
2. Refund to the source of the payment - ie. Bank Account or card.

I think the first option is the default and already ticked. You need to select the second option. If you don't, the default option occurs and your funds are placed on your Amazon account and deducted from future purchases.

I'll watch out for that next time but I really am getting increasingly browned off with buying online as the quality of products and the service seems to be sliding IMHO but maybe I've just had a run of bad luck and lets be honest there is no real alternative to buying online in many cases these days. Where we buy from is I suppose something to think about but again choice can be very limited.

Try living on the Isle of Wight, Alan. 99% of what I purchase has to be online as there are no suppliers on the island.

We're not quite that bad here as we do have some physical brick and mortar charity shops and the church does a table top sale on the last Saturday of the month so some essential supplies like old handbags and tea mugs can be bought at these.

Accessing your money/ payment from e.bay is getting really difficult these days , yes you can still transfer it to your bank account but it’s a kerfuffle and you have to search around to access it ..
Seems like the big boys Amazon,e.bay etc would rather our money is in there accounts earning interest than in ours . On the good side of things though is the fact that e.bay no longer charge you to sell something if it makes £99.99 then that’s what you get
