hi , i find myself needing a bit of help, recently in a bout of nostalgia i bought a Nikon D7000 , i have a AFS- NIKKOR 55-200 4.56G 11ED a dx lens but when attached to camera and switching on just shows outline of focus group with a single red point in middle, pressing shutter button and that's all i see, anyone know what's wrong , thanks.

Isn’t there a button push by the M/A switch to bottom left of camera . Touch the button to change focus modes .. then scroll through options that’s how most Nikon dslr work ..

Hi thanks for your reply , its been nearly15 yrs since i last used camera so ill try that

Almost certainly not the problem BUT, is the lens cap still on? With an SLR, I'd expect something to be visible through the viewfinder. Another possibility is that the mirror is stuck up - take the lens off and see if you can see the shutter or sensor inside the chamber.
