I have just been looking on the adobe site at lightroom 2, and want to get it asap, but might me getting a mac soon and so wondered if I can get it now on a desktop PC, and then use the same copy on a MacBookPro. It says on the screen,

"Platform: Mac/Win"

but it doesn't give me an option to change it. Therefore does this mean that if I buy it now, I can install it both on to a Mac and a PC, or does it meant that when I install it on one or the other, I then wil not be able to install it on anything else??

Thanks,

Oscar ;)

That's what I thought until i looked on the site where it says "Platform: Mac/Win", without letting choose between the 2.

Not 100% certain on this but I think they are separate install packages. The Windows package will be EXE whereas the Mac package will be DMG.
The CD may contain both install packages but I doubt very much you will get one package that will install on both.

The important thing here is the licence key which is multi-platform so you can buy it on Windows and then install on a Mac later and use the same key. Adobe confirmed this for me last year when I toyed with switching over to the Mac myself.

While this is true, as my licence key is multi platform, one of my mates has lightroom, and his key is Mac specific (he changed from a macbook pro to a PC laptop, god only knows why). He was told their are various keys out there, but you can always swap it at a later date if you need too.Adobe have a policy of doing you one platform change free.

thanks guys
so does this mena i can buy it now and get it on a mac later with no problems??

Yeah adobe will have you deactivate it on the PC before activating it on the mac though

I have Lightroom that was initially installed on a PC. I converted to a Mac late last year. Rather than install the original version 2.0 I downloaded the later version 2.3, used the original disk key and it works fine.

Don't think I even deactivated the PC version
