Help With HC-300A Trail Camera

Hi, purchased one of these HC-300A used, came without remote so sorted one from China, it lets me change everything I need to except the Time & Date, can get the year set but cannot figure out how to then move across to the rest, maybe a duff remote as when I press the left or right arrows nothing moves, just wonder if there is something I need to do before I can move L&R? (apart from throw it in the bin)
