Hi all

Can someone tell me if I can use my D90 in Commander mode, set to manual flash, with my SB600 off camera... and set the power of the flash on the flash itself, rather than having to go into the camera menus all the time?

Seems to me that once I set the flash to work as a remote unit I can't use it as a manual flash.

Is this too much to ask of the SB600...?

Thanks all

The whole point is that you can adjust the power from the camera. You can set it to TTL and use EV to lower/increase the power.

I can see the benefits, but every time I want to adjust the power I have to press 6 menu buttons (+ the actual adjustment), whereas I thought I'd be able to adjust it on the flash using just the + and - buttons... or am I missing the point?

Edit - Just tried it using the EV button and it works well (I should have known I could do that ). Am I right in thinking that a 1/3 adjustment on the flash is the same as a 1/3 EV adjustment?

Thanks :)

That's why I bought an SU-800 - makes adjusting the power a much simpler affair

I think so but I am no expert :D You can set the fn button combined with the thumb wheel to do it. I personally have settings "D" set to CLS mode with these things set up and then I can switch quickly. An SB900 would help as you can then change the flash quickly too but it till does not take long with the menu.
