Advice required for CS2,I've just upgraded from a 1Dmk2N to a 1DmkIV and cannot go into A.C.R. it loads up in CS2 but will not allow me to open a file to process, all it says is "Could not complete your request because it's not the right kind of document", can anyone help ?? Thanks

The version of adobe raw thats used by CS2 needs upgrading in order to open the later canon raw files.
The sad thing is that the latest version of adobe raw that will work with CS2 still wont open them, you will need to upgrade CS2 to use the later version of ACR.

There is a work around if you don't want to or cant afford to upgrade (upgrade to CS5 is around £198)
Download the adobe DNG converter, convert your canon raw files to .DNG files and then open in CS2

As Ian says you'll need to either convert to DNG, or alternatively use DPP adjust the RAW in terms of WB, basic levels, exposure etc and then use the Transfer to Photoshop under tools (it will transfer it as a Tiff). Alternatively batch process as 16bit Tiffs and then open in PS later.

If you're spending money I would seriously consider Lightroom 3 unless you use layers and masks a great deal.

I use PS3 and have the same problem with CR2 Files from my 5D2. I use Adobe DNG Converter as suggested. a free download from the Adobe site. More time wasted, but hey-ho!

Many thanks to everyone for the info,I think I will go down the route of getting a later version of CS,which one I don't know,CS4 or CS5,which will mean a new laptop as the one I use now is also getting on a bit.If I was to get CS? how much memory do they take up ?? can anyone advise. Mny thanks again:thumbs:

You'll need as much memory as you can put in. My machine loved the upgrade from 4G->8G and is running much better for it, but you NEED WinX 64 to make use of it (I'd go for win 7 64).

You don't need 64-bit architecture for CS5 PS, only for Premier Pro and After Effects.

It might well make it run faster, but you don't need it.

If that's a reply to mine... You need x64 to access more than 3.x GB memory. Put 8G in a machine running Win32 and you've wasted more than half your memory as it'll only see 3.xGB.. (the .x as it depends on the machine exactly how much you will see)

Yup I misread that as needing 64-bit for CS, not for the 8Gb!!!! Sorry! :)
