Hi all.

At the moment the majority of my photography is done in B&W, mostly because I'm unhappy with the colour in my pictures. It generally feels very dull, and I would like a much more dynamic feel to the colour.

Would this be down to White Balance, or a different setting? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Julian

I agree with YV post a pic

its probably you just need to adjust the tone and contrast, what software are you using as well please

Ah yup that would always be helpful. To be honest I don't actually edit my pictures just yet. Messed up & placed this thread in the wrong place. Sorry guys.

You're talking about camera settings, right? You could try setting the Picture Control to Vivid, then changing the saturation and contrast in that setting. You could also play with the D-Lighting settings.

Maybe a kind mod could move the thread to the right forum so you get better advice.

Gimps free software Ive never used it but folks say its good, Clicky linky or use the software that came with you camera. most pics need some sort of adjustment and sharpening

Do you shoot RAW or JPEG?

At the moment I'm shooting Jpeg. What's the difference between Jpeg & Raw?

In JPEG the camera "develops" the picture. That is, it takes the data from the sensor and applies a set of algorithms to make it into the picture. This includes applying things like changes to the colour and brightness curve. Typically, JPEGs have more "punch" than the basic RAW file, but you do have much more wiggle room with the raw file to make it look like you want.

The reason I asked is that if you shoot raws and do nothing with them, they will look dull and lifeless when compared to others pics of the same thing. Try experimenting with the picture control settings and see what they do to your pictures (take a few of the same subject with different styles to see how the camera processes them differently).

Pretty much what I said but I said it more concise

Thanks Arad, very helpful. Will give it a go.

aye I just gave a simple reply, not knowing your level of understanding of PP and file formats,

What software have you got?

Sorry my knowledge on this is all very minimal unfortunately. I do have Photoshop Elements 8, but to be honest have yet to use it. Am really looking to get my skills & understanding with my camera improved before I look at the editing side of things.
