First post and it's a problem, hope someone can help.

I've just brought a Canon EOS 50M, I've taken some photo's in both RAW and JPEG, the JPEGs downloaded into Photoshop OK but the RAW files didn't. So, I tried shooting in just RAW today but I now can't download them. Is this a known problem or is my camera faulty? How do I fix it?

I’d guess you’re using an old version of photoshop.

Google Adobe dng converter.

Can you download the files to your desktop? Are they visible in the folder there? Use a RAW viewer like Faststone to check if they are viewable. If so, then it's probably a very old version of ACR as Phill suggested. You can use this program to view and edit RAW files for free, until you can upgrade at least

Strange, sounds like the files are stored on the internal memory of the camera, but I don't think the M50 has any :/ There will be a setting in the Menu somewhere that reads something like "Don't shoot without memory card" - make sure this is on. Maybe the card wasn't formatted in your M50? you should always do this first so the it's like a brand new card and doesn't have any hidden old files that might confuse the camera.

I would re-insert an SD card, format it on camera, set that option to on, so the camera will not allow you to click the shutter without the card - take some more pics and try again

I'm afraid it's still no, all I got was "No files in this folder". They are on the camera. Maybe I'll have to get a more up to date version of photoshop.
Have you used explorer to move the files? If you put the card in a reader, open on the computer can you see the files listed

The errors youre quoting are conflating what are 2 distinct scenarios.

Best option is to download DPP (Digital Photo Professional) from the Canon website, as far as I'm aware it is the only software that so far recognises the new CR3 files produced by the M50.
From there you will be able to convert to TIFF or JPG and transfer into Photoshop.

Thanks everyone for trying to help, I now know what the problem is at least. I've downloaded DPP but alas that doesn't recognize CR3 files either. This has got to be a huge black mark against Canon. " lets make a new fancy file system and then not bother producing the software to open it". I've used Canon cameras for year but I'm really going off them now, their customer support is pant. The M50 is a really nice camera just what i wanted in many ways but I also wanted to shot in RAW which it seems I can't do.

It’s definitely not Canon’s fault, the latest version of DPP will process the CR3 files, as does the latest version of ACR.

For the sake of getting help, can you explain exactly what you’re doing, any error messages at what point, and which versions of the software you’re using.

I find this all a bit strange, if the photos are on the card then DPP will read them.

Adobe site is saying that Camera Raw 10.3 or LR Classic 7.3 will support M50 files.

The M50 has been out for a few months now, I would have thought any up to date image editor would be able to read the raw files with no problem. This sounds very strange, what version of Windows are you using?

I think I might have found the problem, I found a driver on Canon's website. I can now download RAW but still not cRAW (RC3) but I'm getting there. Thanks for your help.
Well help properly if you can give us the details I asked for earlier.

Phil V, Sorry for the delay, real like getting in the way as usual.

I'm using Photoshop elements 12 (4 years old). I can download RAW files from my other cameras - 50D and 5D. Also I can download Jpeg files from my 50M to this program without problems.

When I tried downloading RAW from my 50M I was getting "No valid files found".

Next I loaded adobe dng converter, this gave the same message "No valid files found".

Then I downloaded Digital photo professional, and tried again, my photo's were there in thumbnails but when I clicked on them I get "can't open RC3 files".

I searched Canon's site and found a driver, which I downloaded. I also took some shots on the other RAW setting on my 50M just to see if that made any difference. When I then ran DPP again I got the eight new shots in thumbnail and this time they opened when clicked. But, I couldn't see the original 20 shots, since then I've been back in and found them. They were in a different file. So I think I've more or less sussed it. Thanks again for your help.
