Hi everyone. I have looked about and cant see anything so thought i would ask. I have a collection of older 35mm cameras and would love to run some film through them just for a bit of fun. I have shot film a lot in the past but the one i want to have a go with is a Yashica Minister III.
Unfortunately, even after looking through various pages on the internet, i still cant really get to grips with how to set it up.
If anyone has any ideas of how it works it would be of great help.
Thanks.

yeah have looked at them. but its different model camera from what i have and controls are different. thanks anyway

I think you will find it has the same body as the Minister D, if that helps?

Yeah have seen that. But I want to know exact operation of it rather than just a skip over of the controls. That's why j was Hoping to talk to someone who had actually used one.

It does tell you how to do it.

Set ASA
Point the camera at your subject
Read the LV number
Turn the LV number ring on the lens

Simples

Yeah but I still can't seem to get my head round it lol

Where are you getting stuck?

I hope it's not the first bit :)

Well i understand about reading the light meter on the top and then making sure its the same on the lens. the problem i have it that it seems that there is a delay when moving either the front light reading ring or the shutter speed ring. they dont seem to move is sync with each other. was just wondering if this is normal or if this is wear in the lens. dont want to run a film in it until i am sure if that makes sense x

They should move in sync with no delay, but I doubt that is a problem.
I would check the accuracy by using another camera and also check the light seels.

I found a video on Youtube that shows the rings working together. Most of the vid is meh! but the bit that concerns you is at 2.00 mins

Thanks hun. That seems to be working the same as mine does. there is a slight delay between moving either ring depending on where it is and that kind of makes sense in a way now. thanks for finding that for me. best load it up with film and give it a go then lol

Your definition of 'delay' must be different to mine :)
I thought you meant a second or two.

Anyway, check the seals, the meter and viewfinder for accuracy.

Enjoy! It's a great wee camera.

well have loaded it with Ilford XP2 400 now.used the light on my phone and the top meter operates ok. checked everything i could before i loded the film and the inside of it is spotless so no harm in giving it a go. If it is leaking light then so be it but i cant really check that until i have run a film through it. if it is then its still nice just to have on display x

Light seals can be replaced easily, just a bit time consuming.
Use your camera to check the exposure values are similar.

Thats a good idea. Never thought of that.

I have a Minister III if you still need any help. Sounds like you have it sussed though. :)

Thanks Dave. Think i have sorted it now. Realised that once you have transferred the light meter reading to the lens you than have a bit of choice over DoF by the slight variation of the shutter speed ring..........Is that right?

Yup, that's right. Once you've told the camera how much light is falling on the scene, changing the shutter speed dial will also change the aperture to keep the exposure correct.
