Well hoping to go with a few local friends (who run a photography business) and learn about wedding photography, at the moment i have a Nikon D90 with kit lens, a 35mm 1.8 and a 55-200, thing is now I'm wanting a second body, but not sure what i really should be looking at, i see the D200 going for a good price but there a old camera i also look at D80's which seem to be more expensive that the D200 or do i shop round and look for a D300? Other option is D300s and have the D90 as a second body but then i think for that price would i be better off with a D7000?? So really my question is from the above camera's what should i be thinking about as a "other" body and why???
Hope some one can steer me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance

Stuart :)

Yes this has been thought of but i do kind of like the idea of a different body to use!

As always it will depend on your budget.

D200 and D80 can still cut it but you might be disappointed with the high iso performance, particularly at a wedding. If you do go this route, I would highly recommend the D200 over the D80.

I wouldn't really pay any extra for a D300S over a D300. The only benefit I can see for wedding use is the dual card slot but you'll pay nearly £200 extra for the privilege. Sensors are identical and pretty much the same as the D90.

For what it's worth, the D7000 sounds like a decent choice. The controls will be familiar to you, and the high iso performance will suit wedding work quite nicely. Dual card slot to so you can back up as you go.

Maybe worth holding off any decision though until you've tried this stuff out a bit though. You might hate it! You might love it but decide that your money would be better spent on a lens or two.

Thanks for that Graham, I do has the use of a range of lenses so at the moment glass isn't a priority but a second body is, id like to think i could have my 35mm 1.8 on one and the walk about kit on another, the D200 looks very appealing at the moment due to price (£250-300) but a D300 would prob be better long term, I'm just finding that the D90 lacks a dedicated ISO button and find after a take a picture and have a quick glance to see if I'm happy with the ISO i have selected if i need to change it I'm losing valubul seconds having to half press the shutter button to change it or i end up zooming out of the review menu, maybe its just something I'm doing wrong!

No I've tried and havnt got any where with it Gary :(

Go for the D300....D300s is a lot of cash for the vid in my opinion.

Then later sell the D90 and get a D700....

Id like to go FX one day Steve but at the moment funds won't allow :( Its a toss up between the D300 and the D200 its just finding a looked after D300 that someone will sell me :)

Have you got the easy ISO option on? That may help as you can change ISO with one of the scroll wheels (depending on which mode you are in). I know it isn't the exact solution but it may help and is dead handy anyway!

I asked this question on the D90 owners thread last night and now have selected the easy option and it does make life easier :)

I would say go for the D300,great build which you will need,if its going to be a working camera, very good iso range, and great autofoucs, metering :)

The D300 will be better for high iso than the D200. Then look for a D7000 for excellent high iso quality.

Unless you want a S5 pro, thinking about selling mine :)

I must be missing something here, the D90 does have a dedicated ISO button its on the rear between the qual and wb buttons.

Yes but it isn't dedicated to iso only

the ISO handling feels restrictive on the D200 to me, i've gotten too used to my D7000 which handles it very well. I had forgotten what high levels of noise was  despite this, theres just something about the images that come out of my D200, they have a je ne sais qoui about them that i love.

you'll also run afowl of loving the handling of your backup more than your main body ;)

I've bought a D300 as a backup to my D7000 but now the D300 become my main axe. The high iso noise performance on the D7000 is superb and much better then the d300 but the d300 handling is much better then my d7000. I use both on different purpose on jobs so i'm happy with that.

So its a toss up between a D300 and a D7000 now i think! Prob be a D300 if i can find one :)

 :plusone: for d300 :) pics in the siggy if you want to look...! Assuming that I can write enough for the siggy to appear.

Do like the weight and handling plus the focus points :D

I will have a look at the pics now :) it sure looks a nice body now to find one :)

D300 is very nice but apart from the better noise handling, images are very similar to the D200. ( and we all love D200 images!) I dropped lucky on getting one last week. I walked into my local camera shop to see what they had. i just mentioned I was looking for a D300 and they had just taken one in but hadn't put it on display. It was the right price and with very low use ( 2500 clicks) so I bought it there and then. It looks and feels brand new.

They are about, but don't pay too much. Mine was just under £600 with 6 months warranty.
