help with a gig

Hi

i have been asked to shoot a gig at my school, i now have a NIFTY FIFTY but will this be good enough and get a fast enough shutter speed.

If not HELP!! what can i do.

yes it will be fine, i managed to get 1/100 sec with f3 something as i was at about 100mm you are aiming for 1/50 with f1.8 so you will be fine !

What sort of gig.

Assuming concert or drama, and you can get close enough to the stage, then yes, this is a good choice of lens.

it is more singing with lights on. i hope i can be right up on stage

It'll be fine. Do a few test shots, or review them carefully after a few mins. Then up the ISO if needs be to keep your shutter speed at an acceptable, well, speed. Don't use flash. Shoot raw so that you can deal with exposure issues later.

Depends on a lot on the lighting but I find that smaller venues average around 1/200s @ f/2, ISO 1000 so you should be fine.
