Help with a domain

So a while back, I bought the domain

www.photography-kent.com

It just has a dumb redirect to my website but I get a bunch of traffic through it.

The firm I bought it from was supposed to hand it over to me so I can manage my own redirects and host a landing page if I like. They never did. They have ignored numerous emails and never answer the phone.

Here's what the domain registrars know

You'll see it's in my name with the jokers who sold it me as registrant email and the firm they acquired it with as the technical / admin contact. That firm (UK2) won't talk to me as they have no business relationship with me.

I want to change the registrant email and move this domain to my own hosts, first as a redirect and eventually as a landing page.

How can I get hold of it? Without involving InfiniteWeb since they seem uncontactable - though I have a funny feeling they are going to try to charge me some money soon.
 
Domain Admin is UK2.NET so that needs to be changed, you could try contacting them as they would/should be able to administer the domain.
Best case they will pass it over to you, worse case they will ignore you - if all else fails you could take it up with the Registrar Enom but that could get long-winded.
This is the problem with letting someone else arrange domain purchasing on your behalf.
 
Thanks. UK2.net are unwilling to help (quite reasonably IMO because they have a business relationship with somebody else). I guess it's one for Enom :(
 
I was about to suggest you contact Nominet, but fairly certain they just deal with .uk domains.

I've heard of something similar before, and it's possible you don't own the domain, the company you thought bought it for you, may just be leasing it to you. Either way, it doesn't sound like an easy fix.
 
nominet are uk .... not .com

all domains are rented.. nobody can own a domain name...

the OP is the registered "owner" as in renter or whatever you want to call it..

the company you bought it from should ahve a faq on how to transfer..

have you raised a ticket?
phone number onsite have tou called?

I may not have been totally clear.....

I paid Infinite Web for the domain. They claimed that it was an expired domain that the owner had asked them to sell. I was very clear with them that I intended to manage it myself and they were happy with that.

It seems they have actually registered it in my name (partly) using UK2.net.

Infinite aren't returning my calls/emails. UK2 are easy to get hold of but can't help me since I'm not their client (Infinite is) and I can't use their online tools since I don't have a login.

On a .co.uk domain where I had trouble (original registration firm had vanished) my new hosts could basically make a forced takeover to get my domain name back for me. But it seems harder with a .com
 
You could also raise a complaint with ICAAN, particularly if you are meeting with no response but again it's unlikely to be a quick process.

I don't mind slow. I'd prefer it not to be too hard but if it's not much effort it can take 6 months.

Any ideas how I start?

It is not within ICANN's mission to address any customer-service related matters that fall outside of the Registrar Accreditation Agreement (RAA).

I'll set aside some time and make a concerted effort to contact them and if that doesn't work out try ICANN.
 
But that's not your complaint, infiniteweb isn't a registrar, you need help to gain control of the domain which is registered in your name.
