Hey thanks for helping out, just got a new website to reach a larger audience to share my photography and boost sales of my prints and free lance work.

I would like some feedback on the website, (speed, ease of use, aesthetics, etc.) and my photos. Thanks TC

www.tcphotographic.co.uk

If your comments are really helpful, I have no problem adding you to my links page :)

Aesthetically it looks poor, the adverts either side of your site make it look messy as do the news items on the home page. In terms of attracting people to your work it sets it off on a bad note i think. Sorry to be critical but photography is a visual thing and often a simple approach makes it far more inviting. loose the adverts and the news items and the high key approach looks great. The rest of the site functions and looks good and it seems fast enough to me.

I was thinking the exact same, thanks for confirmation, I have received my feedback from friends (non photographic ones) so far and I think they are thinking too practical, thanks. Tom

First thoughts.

1. It's flash, so there are some SEO issues.

2. The navigation is very hard to find because it's so similar to the header.

3. Email address. You have a domain, so why not have info@tcphotographic.co.uk ?

4. Landscape gallery... The large images are links, but they don't actually do anything.

5. About me. Coming soon? The site's live, so should the content be.

6. The order process is a bit clunky, you have to select the photo you want on one page, then order it on another... Any way to speed this up? I suspect people would lose interest and that'll cost you sales.

7. News could be on a seperate page, perhaps?

You have very little in the way of text content for Google, so as a consequence, you'll rank poorly, so people won't be able to find you when they're looking for a photographer.

Overall, I do like the design, it loads fast and if you fix the above, it'll look great :)

I can't see any adverts, even with adblock turned off

EDIT: I can see the ads now. Looks awful, get rid!

Just did a test on Google to see what it had stored for your domain, and this is the result: clicky

It's not flash btw, i moved away from flash that's why i've got the new website, Navigation is now sorted and stands out, email will be sorted soon, not sure about the landscape photos, my English is terrible if you haven't noticed already lol so my friend who is a writer is going to write me a good about me section this week, that will also increase my text, news gone, but yeh I'm not sure what to do with the order process to make it simple any thoughts?

I don't like it at all - sorry! Why would you have ads advertising other photographers? It doesn't fit any standard screen size - is oversized at 1280 x 1024 - still has a horizontal scroll bar. The ads are just messy. Ordering prints is not easy either - why not have the order buttons beside the images? Instead of on a separate page?

The website at this link: www.tcphotographic.co.uk IS FLASH! (mostly)

The ads seem to have gone from the sides and are now down at the bottom of the pages?!

i'm so rubbish with internet things, going to remove the bottom advert later and anyone got any ideas on how to sell my prints in a simpler way than i am doing by having loads of by now buttons?

Get rid of passion protest pics. I don't know you at all (and try not to take this the wrong way) but as a client I would not go any further, as I would think you to be a right wing, racist, BNP voter. Sorry but that's the way it looks to a client, and I'll be honest that is what it looks like to me with it being your first gallery. BTW I am not judging you as a person as obviously I know nothing about you and hope this is not the case.

Others may pussyfoot around this, but it is a real issue.

It's not flash btw, i moved away from flash

Looking at the source code, it still has flash elements in it. You may think you have moved away from flash, but it is still being called onto the page, and to all intents and purposes, it is in the way of users and google

For such a little amount going on, the source code has a lot going on. IMHO the source code is in such a mess, I recommend you start from scratch, recode it in pure css, html and javascript

visually, the ads, the layout, position of face-book icon are a bit of a mess. Practically, if you are selling prints, the sale button needs to be with the print

photographs:

passion pics - commercial suicide this. Without an explanation, or some other images to balance them, it makes you look ultra right wing. the images are ok (ish) but dont bounce off the screen.

Commercial
the images here are not in the slightest bit in the commercial bracket, and also are not anywhere near commercial quality

Portraits
one or two of the images are OK, but you are very polarised. You need to show you can get the basics right (exposure, lighting, FILL LIGHTING) before you show your clever PS skills

Landscape
Your images are in terms of content clutching at straws. only one of them is really a landscape, and it inst really a blockbuster image

Light art

OK, but the car pic is irrelevant

Contact me
The text is not logical, and needs improving - it referes to stuff on other pages, not the contact page...

"currently" - remove
the paypal buttons are not above

about me / links
what's the real connection between YOU and whats under coming soon?

and although you state you are the winner "best in show" for some contest in Nottingham, IMO there is only one shot on the site that is anywhere near the quality of saleable, let alone competition level. Do you have a stack of other work that you are hiding away?

___

Here is the rub. Its all well and good being able to do a moody arty shot, and spend ages working it, but if you want me to hire you for a commercial / portrait/news/corporate shoot, you need to convince me that you are going to do a technicaly and aesthetically A1 job, out of the bag, first time, every time

At the moment your site isn't convincing me of this

Hey guys, thanks for the comments, in reply, I think a description to the protest photos would be a good idea so for someone who doesn't really understand what I was going for. oh thanks for the heads up on the flash thing. From these comments I get the feeling you guys aren't really Impress with my protest photos but I think you have to remember I haven't even started my degree yet and you haven't seen them printed. If any of you live near Leicester UK I suggest checking them out at the Melton Mowbry Art Gallery. Thanks

To me it is more the content of the pics and that it is called passion protest. I get a feeling you agree with the principles of the people there?

I have a bad feeling you agree with things like that as a customer looking at your website, and I agree with what has been said about the quality of your pics. It is hard to hear it, I know, but it is truthful, and maybe you should look at it taking on board what has been said.

Hey

the subject matter of the protest pics is dubious but i do like the gritty look of these pics.
Nice set

The site could definitely be better, especially the advert at the bottom.

However, I really do like your style of photography and think you have a real talent there. Tidy up the site and you're on to a winner.

pherhaps you could call the section Event photography, And
choose a more less emotive subject.

i quite like the colour scheme ,b maybe a more visual approch
ie. some smaller relievent images may improve the look and Feel

Cheers Steve
