HELP!! Stuck lens on body, the dam thing wont come off!!!

Evening all,

Just bought a Nikon 24-70mm f2.8. It went on the body (nikon D80) with no problem, nothing triggers my memory to think there was anything wrong. Took pictures no worries. Has been on the body for 3 days. When i came to take it off today, the thing will not budge. I am fully compressing the release button. There is literally no movement in the lens what so ever.

(yes i am turning it the right way)

So a few questions:

has anyone had this happen to them before - if so how did you fix it?

Seeing as this is the first time I have tried taking this lens off, could it be a fault in the lens?

Any help and suggestions are realyy appreciated.
 
Sounds strange! Its probably one of those things where its something really obvious and you spend the next week kicking yourself for not realising!

However, I don't know what the problem is, which is no help at all. I would suggest just going into the nearest camera shop (that has staff who have some level of training) and give them a go at it. That way you'll know if its you or the camera.

If it really won't budge try a little heat (hair dryer for a 20-30 seconds) this might be enough to realease it. If not go to a local shop as suggested above!
 
have you tried fully tightening it, pressing the release button and then trying to twist in the off direction? and just try repeating this to loosen it gradually. hope you get it off mate.
 
if you stick the camera in a vice to hold it, then take a hammer to the lens, that should loosen it :D

on a serious note though, does the release button feel normal, i.e the spring might have gone that releases the lens or something. Try taking to your local indy.
 
The release button does not feel normal. Feels like it is not fully clipping back out.

unfortunately the only local camera shop i have is a Jessops, Not belittling thier staff. Any one now a decent repair shop i can send it to?

Might sound stupid - but make sure it is fully locked into position before you try and remove it - so instead of turning it clockwise (as you look at the front of it), give it a turn anti-clock... Could be the locating pin is kinda 1/2 in 1/2 out....

Also, if you look along the plane of the mounting surfaces are they aligned?
 
I have tried rotating it in both directions and have put quite a bit of force behind the turning of it, a bit more than I felt safe doing. It is not budging in either direction. and the mounting planes are completely flush. The lens has been working fine on the body.

I think it is going to have to be sent of to repairs i think. I might ring the shop i bought it from and see what they can say (warehouse express). COuld it be a faulty lens?

Can anyone recommend a good repair shop for it if the above option comes to nothing.

Are you local to Warehouse Express? If so, pop in there with it and see what they say.

I'm not sure of their staff's quality though - if they are as bad as some of Jessops, I wouldn't trust them...

Any other local stores that you've used recently who could help?
