Can anyone help?

I wish to set up the phone to do the following:

1. Phone to always ring when a call is received.

2. Phone to vibrate for text messages and all other notifications with the option to turn that to silent when required.

Struggling in the menus to work this out...

:(

I'm glad it's not just me trying to get to grips with this!!!

Press the volume key and make sure "Sound" is selected and the volume is set to the required level.

Then go into Sound & Notifications in the settings menu and set the Notification tone to Silent, check that "also vibrate for calls" is on.

I think that'll give you what you need.

If you want no notifications/calls at all press the volume key and select silent.

Thanks - tricky to test now - but hopefully you've cracked it.

Fingers crossed!!

I've actually used the priority mode with good success too. My close friends/family are set to favourites in my contacts list so only they can disturb me in Priority mode which can be handy.

That sounds an interesting setting....how do you activate?
Press the volume key and you should get 3 options at the top of the screen, Silent, Priority, Sound. Just tap the one you want.

It gives you a settings option too where you can fine tune it a bit more and select days/times this setting is effective.

Ahhh.... this could be an Android 5.0.2 thing then.......

Jeff, touching the cog will bring up the different volume controls, for ringtone, media, notifications and system sounds (might vary with manufacturer) in case you didn't know.

If you swipe down from the top of the screen, look for the same cog up on the top right and press it that should bring up your settings for the phone. Look for a tab something like "My Device" and hit it, then look for Sound, hit that and you should see a lot of options for different sound related stuff. You should be able to find the settings you want in there.

or you could use a silent sample as your ring tone for messages / ringtone just leaving the phone to vibrate for messages and ring for calls using a different ring tone

i set my phone to use different ring tones for different people in my contacts and different ring tones for messages using an app called ringo lite you can set all sorts of permutations of ring tones for each person or type of call

works for me :)

Touch a drag the top of the screen you should get multiple choices when you drag it down I believe . Which phone do you have ?

Use one of the many apps like smart vibrator and the likes and setup a custom pattern for each of the notifications. Job done :)
