Yes
I have just purchased a "Hahnel" cable remote shutter release.

My question is, do you have to set up the camera to use it or should it work automatically when you plug it in? There are no instructions on the box and I can't see any advice in the camera manual.

I have phoned the shop as it is not local to me, but they haven't got a clue.

Thanks in advance.

Which model have you bought ? Is it just the basic one or does it have timer functions etc ? Are you using the correct adaptor on it ?

on the box its got "HRC 280" for all Canon digital SLR's including my model the 1000d. There is only one adapter in the box and it seems to fit.

I've just had a look to see which one you have . I have the same one , you should just be able to plug it in and away you go . Sounds as though you have got a faulty one . try to juggle the connectors about a bit as it maybe a faulty connector .

Also you should have 2 adaptors in the packet and an extension lead .
You need to use the phone jack type one I think .

I hope that you get it sorted . Take your camera with you or ask them to try the replacemant on a display model .

Thanks for the help. It was the shutter release that was faulty after all.
