Help required regarding Pentax K-x

My current kit is a Pentax K-x with Pentax 55-300 SMC DA lens. I shoot motorsport, cars and recently bikes, I am frustrated at only getting 10-15% keepers.

I am considering the following changes, buy a new Pentax K-5 and keep the 55-300 DA or change to used Canon 40d with a new Canon 70-300 IS lens. Either cost around £850 my absolute max spend.

Any feedback as to which will up the keepers, consistancy is key, and give an IQ of at least the same or better.

10-15% keepers doesn't sound too bad to me :D
The shot's you've posted certainly look great.

I see no reason for you to swap to canon, the K-5 could be a really good move (better AF and faster fps), or maybe look at upgrading from the 55-300? I don't know much about this pentax lens, but it sounds like a cheaper kit zoom kind of thing, maybe it's worth upgrading that and keeping the K-x?
 
Use the money and upgrade your lens, the camera shoots what you point at, fps or faster af help but are not imprtant, my cameras 8 years old with a £140 lens attached, and i get good shots, your best bet is to invest in lenses, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sigma-120-4...?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1312834865&sr=1-61
its a hell of lot of money but if you are realy not happy with the shots your getting i personally think its your best option.

Taken with that lens but bolted to a canon plus have a look through his previous threads, all from brands hatch. Hope its alright to post that link.

Your shots you post are good, especially number 6 in your bsb set,i would be well chuffed if thats mine.

For panning, 1/200, f8-f11 for head on or 3/4 shots, usually through the catch fencing, 1/649, f5.6
 
Thanks to all for the advice, I guess I will keep the K-x and research some new glass.
