Hi, just a really quick question as it's for a competition for which the deadline is tomorrow! The competition states that images must be submitted as "1024x768 @72dpi". I'm fine with the re-sizing, but have no idea about the DPI bit, apart from what it stands for! Some are already at 72dpi which is fine, but others say either 240 or in one case just 2? I don't want to get my entries disqualified so some help would be really really appreciated! Thanks a lot,

Chris

I didnt think Jpeg files contained any Dpi information as its only used when outputting to a printer?

What software do you have? - it's simply a number embedded in the image to tell printers how big to print the image and means nothing.

And yes, it is embedded in jpegs.

Forget the DPI it has no bearing on your image until you print it info for the printer not the screen It some rule put there by someone who do not know what their talking about.

Agree totally, but the morons who set the competition may disqualify the OP if it's not 72ppi :bang:

Ah right, thanks a lot! I thought it was a bit odd, as usually it's just a size restriction, but I'll just submit them as they are in that case! Cheers guys!

Chris

Edit: I have Photoshop CS3!

Well that's what I was worried about, is there any way I can change it if it's just a tag type thing somewhere in the jpeg? I've had a look at it in PowerEXIF and couldn't see a way of changing it, any advice?

Chris

In photoshop, open the file , go to image > image size

Change the resolution to 72 PPI, (Make sure its inches not cm mine seems to change with the weather) then put the width/height back to 1024 X 768, should be fine then.

chris, to be on the safe side, when you use the resize image option in cs3 [assuming you have cropped to the correct ratio anyway], the bottom box is dpi, change that to 72 [it will probably be either 300 or 240 as default], then go back to the width [or height] and change it to 1024. That way you are sure. I think I know which comp you mean, best to be safe

edit:  beaten to it by thmaga

Awesome, you're a star! Never noticed that box before, even if it makes no difference it at least gives me peace of mind!

Chris

Edit: And thank you Yv as well! It's the competition that 'Rockshifter' won last year and has a thread going somewhere, "CB Ellis" something or other!

No Problem

cs3 go to Image/image size put in your DPI well its realy PPI make sure you keep the resample image UN TICKED

No need to if you put the Width/Height values back to the original.

If you have a look at image size in the image menu, you should see what dpi you image is, the default for photoshop is 72dpi
