Edit My Images
Yes
know nothing about editing yet -- downloaded "gimp" and will learn
but wanted to post an image of a barn to ask "what would you do" - so i can then follow these suggestions on Gimp

image is 388x2600 at 6 MB and sharp
as soon as i reduce to 800x600 and 200kb, using Paint.net and Upload to my Gallery - then all the fine detail of planks and flowers is swamped out.

yet the uploads on this sub-forum are all sharp...............how? :bang:

Why not use GIMP to resize it?

EDIT: sorry didn't read properly, but it seems that now is the best time to learn your first process with GIMP.

why ... does it do what i want whereas Paint.net wont

I should try first i suppose but head is spinning ATM....:bonk:

Right, I didn't realise that paint.net is a piece of software.

In that case I'd look to make sure that the resizing method is set to bicubic. If you can't alter the method, then I dunno, or use GIMP.

That image isn't very contrasty.
Images with lots of sharp edges and busy all over the place are typically larger filesize.

thanks both ....

Sharpen after resizing?
Paint.Net should do all you need with no problems.

ok - had a hard look at "Gimp" and decided to start with Paint.net at first

my editing requirement is very low-end - just cleaning up images for personal use

right - here's a better attempt at uploading an image - it's straight from the SD card - just cropped a bit off the bottom dark stuff

before I start any editing could you ALL tell me what "you" would do - then I'll start learning Paint.net using your suggestions...Thanks....

any comments/advice where to go next on these 4 images ?

anyone?

I have been using Gimp for a week now and would recommend you try playing around with it as it is fairly straight forward:thumbs: tried paint and thought it a complete waste of time:thumbsdown:
Im very new to this stuff and if i can work out how to get your pics into Gimp i will have a go at them and give you the details:thinking:

 I found Paint.net very good.
Layers, Levels, Curves plus all the normal adjustments such as Clone, Rotate, etc.

As i said i'm very new to this and it may just have been me with paint:shrug:

Had a quick go at first image :
cloned out poles and fence in bottom right corner
crop
desaturate
reduce noise
sharpen
add borders
as i said before very much a novice, i'm sure some of the people on here can do alot more with it.

Had a little play with it,hope you dont mind.
