help please

hi all i am photographing a gig on friday its a jamriqui tribute, what i would like is some shots of the band with slight movement but the artist to be quite sharp ......not sure if im explaining it wel but like a ghostly quality

like this but not sure how to achieve it can someone help please

Off camera flash on rear sync with a longer exposure than normal. Your flash would have to be quite close though.

Or a seperate light which you can trigger yourself as he approaches the light. You could use bulb mode if you're using a tripod.

As mimmt says.. set your flash to rear curtain sync, and also slow sync. You shoot with a slow shutter speed, but the flash won't fire until just before the shutter closes.

The problem is that the shot you used as an example would have been taken in a dark room with just one light source on the subject. At a gig, you'll have a lot of light, and may find it hard to keep a long shutter speed.

It's a common technique used by those who take images in nightclubs.

Yep, ambient light could play havoc for you but it could also add a nice touch of colour to the shot too.

The shot above probably had multiple attempts to get right too. If you are photographing him whilst performing it's not like you can say 'let's just do that again'.
