I wanted to show the moon without blowout and also highlight Bognor Regis pebble beach but was unable to do so. What have I done wrong?

was taken on a tripod, I have the raw file if anybody needs it.

I don't think that you have done anything wrong. What you will probably need to do is take 2 shots, 1 exposing for the moon and 1 for the beach then merge them in PS

What Gary said! In exposing for the foreground the moon and sky has over-exposed. Two separate exposures is the answer. Alternativly, it would be pretty easy to clone out that moon altogether and replace it with another. ;)

thanks guys but I am not travelling another 290 miles there and back just for another shot.

Will try to remember next time I am shooting scenes like this.

But if you still have the RAW file, surely you can adapt and save a file for the highlights, then do the same again so you have another file for the shadows? I'm sure you can do it, then merge the two - just don't ask me how!

Or just have some fun with it. :)

If you do split exposures from RAW as suggested above it should give quite good results.

I had a fiddle with the Jpeg to see what it might look like.....

Ps. you need to straighten the horizon ;)
