I was wondering if anyone could help, i upgraded from a Canon 450D to a 60D about six weeks ago, today i went to change lenses only to find the little half moon shaped black button that you press in to change lenses has come out. Nothing bad has happened to my camera and its still imaculate so its obvious its not been in any accidents to make this happen. Ive had the furniture out, sieved through the hoover bag but its no where. Has anyone else had this happen? What do i do now? It was purchased from Argos.

GFs 300D button fell out - but if you have long enough nails you should be able to detach the lens by sticking the nail in the aperture from where the button fell out...

Annoying, I know..

Thanks for the advice Peter but i want my camera to be complete, its only a few weeks old, we have managed to get the lens off but surely this button shouldnt drop out?

I've now arranged to take it to our local Canon repair place in Colchester tomorrow who will do it under warranty as long as they can see it hasnt been dropped or anything (it hasnt). Means i'll be without it for a week though :(

If it was older like my 450D which was several years old it wouldnt have worried me so much but this is a new camera so i dont want it to be missing parts :nono:

Thanks for replying, i will update asap on the outcome

Heidi, before you commit to sending it off for a week for repair (I know it's not costing you, but it's still a week without a camera) try popping into your nearest Argos.

I've never tried them for anything electronic, but on other stuff they're generally very good at swapping faulty items out right away.

Good advice.

I have never had any problem exchanging genuinely faulty kit at Argos.

Had a new compact Samsung camera for a month when the LCD failed and they swapped it without a blink. Not a 60D though!

You have nothing to lose by popping in, subject to them having a 60D in stock. Normally an order and pick up a couple od days after item in my most local stores.

If thry say no you still have the warranty repair available

Strve

:plusone: for a return to Argos as faulty. They'll probably replace it there and then for you. Don't forget to take your card out of it though!

If it looks undamaged, apart from the button being missing :), they will swap it and then charge Canon a re-stocking fee!

I sent a camera back to Argos for a fault and it fell outside of the straight exchange policy and had to be sent away.

it was away to manufacturer for almost a month

Am I missing something here? Camera a few weeks old... just return it to where you bought it from and get it replaced. You're entitled to that under the sale of goods act. Did you keep the receipt? Never mind all this Argos will take a month nonsense.. they are obliged to replace it under law. Fact.

I completely agree. Although any proof of purchase will do (bank statement, credit statement). Doesn't have to be a receipt.

Wish i'd seen all this earlier but i did think to check Argos stock of the 60D and they were out of stock at my 10 nearest stores so wouldnt have got it straight away anyway. Its now being repaired under warranty in Colchester and they said this morning their turnaround is about 7 days. Thanks to all that have taken the time to comment

doesn't SoG refer to replace or repair?

F4048BRepair or replacement of the goods
(1)If section 48A above applies, the buyer may require the seller—
(a)to repair the goods, or
(b)to replace the goods.

from memory Argos swap out if returned within 28 days, after 28 days until warranty period is up they send items off for repair

Take it back to Argos ;). I returned 2 cameras to them and had no problems at all. 1 was for having a really obvious hot pixel in videos from a camera, and the other was for having dust behind the screen at manufacture.

Very helpful they are there. If you send it to Canon, you have to wait in for the delivery, could take a while etc.

Just to let you know my camera is now back with me fully repaired under warranty, i picked it up yesterday so it was only away a few days :)
