i have some old school flash equipment (a TTL flash gun and 2 smaller ones, pics below), now stupidly i put the large one on my D40 and it worked fine, although could have fried it i now understand!

My question would be - will this be compatible with a D300 - and if so (it does not work digitally, it has gauges on the back in relation to ISO so it can be manually set), how do i know what power to put it on??

i also would like to know how to couple it with the camera off the hotshoe if anyone knows?

i am very new to flash photography so any help or advice relevant to this equipment would be more than welcome

:help:

Thanks in advance

To be honest i would not use them on top of your camera...

You have to be very careful with the trigger voltages...

There are quite a few budget TTL flashes about new for sale..
Try FITP thread in advertisers section or Jessops..

ok, thanks for the advice. I currently use them in the pitch black on a long exposure and hand fire them - not perfect by any means!

Have you got a multimeter they are easy to check for voltage...I just checked some old hammerhead flashguns out and there trigger voltages was only 4.5volts
