Hi all,

Anyone have any idea how to retrospectively add geo data to RAW or JPEG files?

I have a sony GPS unit, and use Breeze Downloader Pro to add data to my canon 40D raw files. Unfortunately I've just discovered that this hasn't been working since July as downloader was looking for the file /gps rather than /GPS. I didn't notice as it said it was reading the GPS data - I now know it should also give the lat and long numbers else it isn't actually finding the data at all. If I try to reimport the pictures then downloader says they are problem files and won't allow it - and it would lose my jobcodes.

Anyone any thoughts on how I could still fix this in a batch process? Ideally a nice free download of software to just marry the files together? Or a way to get around downloader thinking they're problem files and I'll add the jobcodes manually if need be.

Thanks in hope

Have you tried GeoSetter? Free, allows manual look up and entry of lon/lat data, and batch processes too I think. Google it...

Thanks Hepburn, just looking into that now. Looks fairly complex - have you used it? Just not sure how to do anything if it doesn't go through Google maps. If anyone knows the software I could do with a little handholding through the process....

geosetter uses google maps. fairly easy if i recall, but been a while since i last used it. You just need to zoom to the location on the map and click to add the co-ordinates...

That does sound easy for one-offs, but unfortuately I have hundreds of pictures I want geotagging, so need to figure an automated thingy. I'll perservere and see how I get on.

if you have the waypoint file then geosetter will do an automatic import, matching, and writing of exif. have a read about it. It daunted me intially but i was up and running with it in a matter of a few hours.
