Hello all, i need some advice.

im looking for a camcorder with good quality etc. its really mainly for fun recording nights with friends etc. and skating/bmx riding recording, but i really have no idea whats good and whats not, i have been told that the CANON MV930, http://www.comet.co.uk/cometbrowse/product.do?sku=317845&tab=specification is suppost to be a good choice. i need something which i can upload onto my computer and edit etc, but also i really like the fisheye effect which is used in skating videos etc. would it be possible to attach one of these lenses to the above camera or similar ones in that price range or is it only specific camcorders which you can apply this to? any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
jimmy.

No idea about video cameras, the only advice I can offer is to buy the best you can afford. Remember also that most compact cameras will also record video and give you much better stills.

my dad has recently purchased a MV930 after alot of research and only hearing good things about it , and is well packed for a budget camcorder. ive seen the playback of a few videos hes recorded and im impressed with the picture quality and sound, even takes resonable still shots too.

i have a panasonic NV-GS11 found --HERE--

ive had it a couple of years now and only used it for a total of one complete tapes recorder, although i used it to record my wedding ceromony this year. its a good camera too with a very impresive picture and sound zoom with 24x optical and 800x digital.

Looks like a nice camera, and the specs seem good. I would personally go for Sony just for the build quality, but Canon is almost as good :p

Safe staying away from the HDD and DVD cameras for now in my opinion. Mini DV is a good format, quality is good and easy to capture onto your pc.

I've had a play with a few cams and although I do like Canons (I own one too) I would if I had my time again not go for canon 'cause you do get 'tape motor' noise when shooting quiet environments. HTH ;)

Thanks for the replies people, but does anyone have an answer to the fish-eye lens question?

RE the fish eye I not exactly sure, I know you can get wide angle lenses that just screw into the end of the cam, maybe you could get one wide enough?? Might be worth having a look on warehouse or jessops or callumet, perhaps would even give them a bell. Other thing you could do is check the accessories for the particular cam you are looking at, with what I said about the motor/tape noise on Canons, apparently this is the case on their top end broadcast stuff too. try flicking around some AV forums, won't do any harm.
