Hi, Can someone explain how I can place my weeks in order on my first page so people do not have to trawl through useless post etc, I have tried going into the edit section and then adding a link but that puts all the link message into the post and I only want the week number showing to keep it tidy. Thanks

Hi Shaun - your link needs to be entered in a url statement, go here for more info

Arthur - couldn't resist, sorry :D

Hang on, you do that already so all you need is the following instead...

My latest image

I hope...

Arthur

Edit - yup, that's it. And to get that link post your image then go to the section index again where all the other threads are, and click the "latest post" button for your thread - you will then go to your latest post and you can use that link to put in your post. Once you have the link, you will see that it is basically point to a msg number, that's the universal number for your post only, so all you need do is alter that number for a different post... to get the post number, click on the post number top right of each post and check the long number in the url.

OK. See at the top of the screen window there's the url for where you are now? If you copy that url and put it in your message you will have a link to this page if you came here directly. You will see that that address has the same number twice in it, eg. 2398156... that is the reference for a message number (your boat scuplture image actually). If you alter that number in the url for a different message number, you will then make the url point to that message...

So - the message before mine (where you say "Sorry, not sure..." is message number 2398160 (found by clicking on the number "5" on the top right of that message box and checking the message number in the address window that opens). Putting that into the url gives us:

[*url]http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?p=2398160#post2398160]This link is it [*/url] (you must not include the "*" characters)

so that is then the address of the message. That is the link to it, and what you have to use, like this (note no asterisks):

This link is it

Arthur

PS - click the Quote button to see the actual code you need since the last example above will show as a link rather than the code, then maybe just copy it and simply alter the message number for the one you want to point to?

Nearly, that takes you to page three rather than a specific message... check the last part of the url and you can see that is where you are sending it... this part:

/showthread.php?t=191882&page=3

is saying show the thread that is topic number 191882 and go to the top of page three

what you want to do is tell it to go to a specific message, like this:

/showthread.php?p=2398160#post2398160

which is basically saying go to post number 2398160 and put that post at the top of the page

Any clearer?

I understand what you are saying in that I need to input the correct post instead of the thread but still not sure how i get there :bonk: What I am doing is just copying and pasting this into the reply window which only posts the long link are you saying I have to write in between the two copied links to get a a small high lighted link that I was after or should I just forgot I ever come onto this thread as losing the will to live:)

Yes, that's nearly right, only enter the link once though.

The main http link goes at the start in the first square brackets after url=

then you add the text you actually want to display in your message

Click here to go to the right place

Then close the instruction with the end url command

Click here to go to the right place

That will give you a line that looks like this:

Click here to go to the right place

Which is exactly what you are after (just for this message I have turned off the php parser to allow you to see the command rather than the result) but you simply have to alter the message number (2398160 above) to your target message.

Yes, without the * though. The / is read as "end"

Copy this line

Click here to go to the right place

find the message number you are interested in, alter message numbers in the line above to that number and Robert is your Mum's brother.

Arthur :D

PS - nobody said it was easy!!
