Hi everyone,

Right, I am at a bit of a crossroads - I have googled the hell out of this and seem to just end up back where I started, so I figured I'd consult the collective tp mind :)

I find myself in need of a camera and lens, mostly for client video work - no brand loyalty, can be from any system but needs 4K 60fps - It's for interior video and images, so if it was reasonably ok for stills too, that'd be brilliant - only other requirement would have to be a wide angle option availability in the lens range (something between maybe the 17-24mm range).

One that kept popping up was the Panasonic LUMIX DC-S5 - I know this would have me sorted for the video requirements, but I've heard that wide angle lenses are few and far between for the system (hopefully that is incorrect) I have never used Panasonic though, so am a little hesitant, although I've found the camera and 20-60mm lens combo for £1500

Is there anything in the Sony, Fuji, Canon or Nikon camp that does 4K 60 without completely breaking the bank? An A7 Siii is out of my budget for this unfortunately, so I thought an A7sii would suit until I found it was only 4K30fps. I'd probably be fine with that usually, but 4K is a requirement and I'd like slow motion as an option for futureproofing. I looked at the XT4 and though it does 4K60, I read that it crops in to do so and that may limit how much I could fit into the scene if shooting indoors - please correct me if I'm wrong, I'd be perfectly happy with the XT4 if it could fit everything into a wide angle shot indoors :)

So, to sum up, needs 4K60fps with a wide angle option - anything between the 17mm - 24mm range and the abilty to capture half decent stills would be a bonus.

Thanks in advance to anyone that may be able to help, much appreciated (y)

The Panasonic is M43 so the 20-60mm lens you mention is really a 40-120mm in full frame terms.

You'd need the Panasonic 7-14mm f4 lens but it ain't cheap

I'm not up on recent model numbers but Googling the Panasonic DC-S5 tells me it's a FF camera.

You had me worried for a minute there mate, I just had to double check, but think it is indeed full frame. That lens looks nice though!

Yep, it would seem you are correct mate (y)

What about a GoPro - should be able to find one that does 4K60 and has a wide angle FOV
Thanks for the suggestion mate - If I were to go with a GoPro then it wouldn't cover the stills option and I'd rather it was incorporated. I have a pretty decent camera on my phone that can cover it but just thought I'd see if there were any hybrid style cameras out there to stop me having to mess around with multiple systems on the day (y)

Maybe a cheaper option could be the GH5.. that is a pretty good one? I'm very happy with mine.

Canon-wise you're screwed unless you go for the R5 or R6.. and thats the best part of 3.5k for a bdy only! Hence me ending up with the GH5..

Thank you for the suggestion, do you use wide angle lenses with yours?

Yep, not looking to invest that much either at this point unfortunately.

I am afraid that there will never be a consensus for something like that. You need to examine how you photograph (moving around a lot quickly versus more stationary, doing a lot of walking and carrying, shooting under extremely bad lighting conditions with low light and high contrast) and you need to look at what your subject matter is (people, landscape, wildlife, sports)This influences your choice. I think all systems now can deliver great results, but not all will fit you equally. All the online sources will burry you in specs and try to convince you that the small differences matter. As someone who used several brands over the years and someone who exhibited a lot in the professionally juried international shows, I know that these differences matter little. Make sure that a system you pick offers lenses that would fit you in terms of appetite, focal length, stabilisation, focusing speed and weight. Any system that fits you will keep you happy.

Panasonic S5 sounds good to me and think there is a £300 quid cashback offer on now.
20mm on FF is still quite wide looking at 10mm on m4/3 or about 14mm on APSC which would be considered wide angle lenses.
Panasonic have a good history when it comes to video and the price is certainly attractive.

Thanks for the help everyone, I've decided after lots more research that I'm going to stick more with what I know and look for an XT4 with 10-24mm - the 10mm even with the zooming at 4K60 should be wide enough (y)
