Hi there,

I've been on the forum a while but i dont usually post much, i have been trying to offer my opinion a bit more lately!

Now i've recently really started to enjoy my photography as i've had more time for it for the first time since college, so im going to upgrade my gear.

I'm wanting to spend around £600 but could extend that if needed, i want to go over to full frame now and I think my choices are 5d mark i or 1d mark ii.

Can anyone offer me some advice with these? I mainly shoot static cars, landscapes, and a small amount of wildlife (although im looking to increase that)

Thanks, Tom

The 1d mk2 is not full frame it's 1.3 crop, the 1ds is full frame but you'll need alot more than £600
Go with the 5d I think

haha well you can tell ive had the one camera and looked at nothing else while ive had it then! I must admit im swaying towards the 5d, however the weather proofing appeals to me of the 1d.

I do alot of rock climbing and walking so it could prove to be a worthwhile feature. What about the differences in the lens prices?

thanks

You can get a 1Ds mk1 for less than £600, stunning build quality, weathersealed, great IQ, I used one as my everyday landscape camera till recently, the only thing to take into account is the screen is woeful and it is a little slow to buffer shots.

Thanks mate, ill bare that in mind. What the picture quality like when blown up to say A3ish size?

The 5D is also better than the 1Ds at high ISOs if this is something you use often.

I dont really use a high ISO very often, although that probably because on my current camera bumping up the ISO is a no go

The quality is lovely, I've had some A3s done, and sold some prints, in A3 done with the original 1Ds and they print up beautifully. If you look at my flickr feed and go back beyond about September last year you'll find 99% were done with my 1Ds, they're uploaded at full resolution so you can have a good look.

Thanks appreciate that, will i find you on flickr by searching for markmullen?

are there perhaps any other cameras that i should be looking at in that budget? A friends has recommended the Nikon d90 to me for example
