Hi folks,

Help me out from the quagmire of netbook-purchasing!

I'm after a netbook to compliment my laptop, which will be used for the power stuff, so it doesn't need to be high-end, just something I can access some web-based content on when on the move. I don't get on with tablets, so it HAS to be a netbook.

I would like:

1). A minimum of 11" screen - the 10" ones are too small for me, but would prefer a 12" if such a thing truly exists
2). A minimum of 5 hours battery use OR the ability to buy a long life battery for it - all day (8 hour) would be even more awesome
3). A nice keyboard - I realise this is subjective but I don't like some of the cheaper-feeling keyboards (think early, early, netbooks)

Budget - £250-£300 but less would be better! Entirely happy to buy refurb or used too!

Thanks,
James

I had a Samsung NC-10 that was really nice, matt screen, 9-cell battery (good for around 10 hours) and had a decent keyboard. Not sure what the current model is though..

The NC10 is only 10" so outside the specs of the OP.

I would suggest looking at one of the Compaq HP 11.6" models. They are dual core, very good keyboard for the small size, good battery life (8 hours is possible) and well made. I've had one for almost a year and can't fault it in any way.

Dixons are currently selling for £249.

Yes, I guess I should have pointed out that it was a Samsung recommendation as opposed to the NC-10 in particular.

...actually, scratch that. It seems they've moved away from netbooks altogether.

have a look at a second hand IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad in the X60/61 series.
They've got everything you're looking for, a 12" Screen, long battery life and one of the best keyboards ever produced.
You'll easily pick one up and have money to spare with the budget you've mentioned.

Thanks for all the help everyone - all sorted! Cheers!

I had an NC10 which I think was the first and last of the good netbooks! Small size, big battery life, cheap price. I got mine used for peanuts.

Now they are all specced up, sized up, priced up. Netbooks don't exist any more!
