Hi,

If anyone can help me with this i would be more gratgeful than you can ever imagine.

Long story short, was goin through a cupboard and found my old cosina 35mm, with a jessops 220ABZ flash, bright idea me thinks, bung it on my 400d and see if it works.

Sure enough it worked, but now the built in flash won't pop up, even if i press the little button, if i flick the catch with a scapple blade so the flash is in the open position, the camera still doesn't see it and therefore doesn't use it.

PLEASE HELP!!

The safe max voltage for a flash on the hotshoe of your camera is 6v, your Jessops flash puts out 212v, so, yes, it's probably safe to say you've killed it....

OH, well i've sorted it, the 2 little microswitches at the edge of the shoe were still pushed down, flicked the springs with a scaple and bobs ** uncle.

So i would asume from this little escapade, the only flash units i should be putting on my 400D are to two canon speedlites?

There are more than two Canon ones that will fit, but there are jessops and others that will fit aswell.

You've had a lucky escape, you could quite easily have killed your camera with that flash. If you want a cheap flashgun then pop along to Jessops and spend £35 on their 300AFD Canon-dedicated model - it's a lot cheaper than a new camera ;)

thx guys,

just out of interest then, which would be a decentish flash at about £50-£70?

cheers

there are quite a few of the jessops 360afd's on ebay that go for around £50 refurbed. i was tempted but i am going to go to the shop tomorrow first as i have also killed my 400d flash and want to make sure they work first.
