My End-of-Tour dates have been provisionally confirmed as the first week in April.
Now, looking-forward...

Since my car has sat untended for 6 months on the Parade-Square at Maida Road Barracks in Aldershot, I'm anticipating a fraught time when I get back.
The battery is disconnected but is bound to be flat after all this cold weather, as might the tyres also be. At best they'll have flat-spots and I've arranged to get a Monster-Service done on my return - in Devon where my parents live - the guy there's sympathetic to my having German-spec headlights for the MoT inspection - I have the UK ones, but it's a faff swapping them over...

If there's anyone in the Aldershot area with a set of jump-leads that feels like lending me a hand to get the car started when I get back, I'd be very grateful in a beer-and-curry sort of way.
A foot-pump to top-up the tyres might also be a good thing.

Contact by PM if you feel like helping out - exact timings and contact Moby numbers will also be exchanged by PM for obvious reasons.

Cheers
RobK

april you say, want me to set the balls rolling (shockily slowly) for sometime after that?

Wouldn't jump anything from a modern car, too many damned computers to throw a strop.

If you still not got anything sorted nearer the time time Rob, give us a shout, A jump'n'carry and an electric tyre pump are part of the boot kit. Aldershot isn't 'local' though, so consider this a 'back up if all else fails/lets you down' kind of offer ;)

Yep - say the second week?
Should be OK for that - ish. Very 'ish' at the moment...lol

If not then after June 1st. When does Summer-Term start/finish?

Mine's a 10-year old Ford Cougar V6 and I've done it before, both ways.
As long as you connect the leads in the right sequence you'll not fry anything, regardless of what it is...

Cheers Yvonne - it's long way for you, so I'm hoping someone a bit closer will step-up before April...lol

Would be more than willing to help out- I don't live in the Aldershot area, but will take a day off work to sort it out?. Rob

If you are stuck for help I am willing to come down and help you out Rob, would be nice to meet you too

spring ends on the 2nd of april and summer starts on the third of may

I think exams are 2weeks ish after that (will confirm with a more studios student)

so the first 2 weeks of may look good to me provisionally

I'm only about 20 minutes away, will be happy to help.

I'll have to borrow some jump leads but I do have a compressor on the van, so if we can get power it'll save all that leg work!

Sending PM

Sounds like a TP Get-Robs-car-started curry meet to me :)

Actually...

A Mass-Curry at the Gurkha curry-house in North-Camp might not be a bad idea...

hmmm...

If you get stuck, I`m not far off Rob.

Got all the kit in the van...

Might be an idea to get some fuel in a jerry can, you won`t want to have to turn the engine off if you`ve just recently jumped it, it might not have enough in it to start again at the petrol station!!

yep exams are 26th may onwards so that first 3 weeks people should be about

I'll have to tie this up with:
getting back to UK
handing-in kit to the QM's
getting the car started
getting the car Serviced, repaired and MOT'd (busted A/C condenser)
getting back to Germany
1 week of GF-enforced bed-rest *ahem*
three-week hols in Arizona and New Mexico
then:
getting the Mustang back to UK for its service and MoT...

I'm sure we'll work it out somehow...lol

if you're stuck in april I've a compressor and battery pack am happy to run out to Aldershot for you

Trust me - I wanted to. Two things prevented me:
One - I didn't know anyone at 11 Brigade well enough to leave the car with them. Had I still been with 7 Brigade, there would have been a dozen people I'd have trusted to look after it for me.
Two - at the last minute I needed the car to run around like a lunatic collecting kit to take with me due to a monumental cock-up at HQ Land - remember me mentioning that I had to take over some of the camera-kit belonging to the Photographer already in Afghanistan, who had to delay his departure by 5 days?
That.
On the day we left the UK, I was still driving back and forth from Wilton, near Salisbury to Aldershot and on to Beaconsfield grabbing extra bits and pieces.

Otherwise I'd have left the car at my Dad's and got him to drive it around once a month.

Yep, you're right there - there's about 1/4 tank of rotten fuel in there right now, probably 30% water from all the condensation.

Annoying as hell - I know what should be done if storing a car for this length of time, I just didn't have time to sort it out...

Cheers Boys and Girls - that's about a half-dozen of you - this way one of you is bound to be 'in' when/if the call for help comes - and it will be at a reasonable hour, I promise - if we get in very late I'll kip in the office.

Rob i do understand it was said in jest... but as yu know the workshop lads are gonna earn a fair bit when you get home from the others that just didn't think.

sounds like you'll be a busy boy :D

something will work itself out and theres a few months between here and there ;)

Well, if we were still in Aldershot, you could have saved yourself all this hassle and left your car with us. But we're sort of out of the way now

I had thought of that - how could you Move?
It's SO inconvenient...

Just spoke to hubby we live in deepcut and we have jump leads and hubby knows his way round an engine and stuff give me a shout when you need help and we will be there no problem he is due to go out to afgan but not till July so should be around.

And he said if you let him know what car it is he can do the service for you at a resonable price

Always avail, if you feel trusting enough send the keys over and I'll have it running!
Only out at church crookham, takes around 10 min to get over and no hassles with entry

and in a freaky twist I just met my new neighbour, kellie W's fella!

I didn't realise you'd moved already...lol
You have a PM...

Folks - thanks for the responses, but since SK617 is in the Army as well, it makes getting him on-camp a lot easier, and he can go check on the thing sooner than April, which means I'll be less likely to be returning to a pile of rotting crap.

For those that offered assistance - the Beer & Curry-Voucher is still valid - I don't forget my friends.

And he said if you let him know what car it is he can do the service for you at a resonable price

Yes Please...
2000 Ford Cougar X-Pack, 2.5l V6...
It'll need a full-service - fluids, plugs, filters (oil, air and pollen).

Car is SORN for the moment, and I'll get it re-registered for the beginning of March, just before the MoT is due.

ahhh... now that I've said it's free curry even for offers, everyone wants to come to the party... :D

Cheers Hyp...you're on the list...
