Hi there

I'm a complete newbie to posting here so please be gentle!

I've two questions............

I've organised a portrait shoot this weekend and have borrowed a set of Bowens Gemini 500 (2 units) to match mine only having tested the borrowed set only one flash works, thus I have 3 flashes.

Mass panic as I'm leaving tomorrow night for the shoot!

Now I can hire a set of Elinchrom DLite 4's from the Flash Centre but am unsure of whether I can fire them both at the same time from my Nikon D700 - I'll be using a Bowens sync lead as I don't have a wireless system. Obviously the Bowens will fire one to the other via the infrared. Does Elinchrom work on the same system and will the Bowens be able to fire it at the same time?

Alternatively if I'm lighting the background (I'm shooting high key) with 2 lights is one softbox on the person enough? I've got a large softbox (around 140cm x 80cm). I had planned on using 2 for the background and 2 for the people.

Any help/advice gratefully received!

Slow down and stop panicking:)

Not via infra red, via the slave cell. They will work seamlessly together.

If I'd known you were shooting on a chavground I wouldn't have tried to help you:)

it's what the people want - what can I say? Supply and demand I'm afraid!!! ;-)

I don't have a slave cell, should've said the Gemini's are the Esprit's and not the newer type. Am I doomed?

if one bowens will fire when the other one does, then it has a 'cell' switch on the back. put both on 'cell', plug your sync lead into the eli. (im sure it will have a slave cell too but I dont know much about elincrom)

Was that a blond moment?

Yes they do have the cell switch............so is that all I have to do? Seems very simple!

Slave cell=photo cell
It's the red rectangle just to the right of the esprit logo on the top.
The switch for it is on the rear panel, and labelled "cell", which will activate the unit being triggered by the photo/slave cell or deactivate it.

Don't sweat it, you're covered. ;)

Thanks so much for that Michael! Just had a quick read and it told me all I need to know - brilliant!

Thanks
