HELP !!! I NEED A NEW CAMERA :)

More specifically - a high quality compact, ideally with a fast lens and good high ISO performance

After an amazing day yesterday budget isn't too much of an issue, but if I had to pluck a figure out of the ether £400-£500 would be nice

Oh - and no brand loyalty here - I'd even use a Canon !!!

(they do come with protective gloves right ??? :D)

Thanks in advance

This is the one that everyone ever recommends
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-Power...OK52/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1305270271&sr=8-1

and at well in your budget as well (which is rare thing in this game)

Thanks Helen

I rarely read ANY camera reviews until such times as I need new gear so I'm not aware of any of these sorts of cameras or their spec levels

Just hoping for a few recommendations, then I can review everything about them, buy one, and stop reading reviews again for a few years :D

Panasonic GF1 with 20mm f1.7 (as long as you don't need a zoom lens of course)

Another vote for the S95, I am thinking of getting a portable camera for the trips on which I dont fancy lugging my D3s about, and the pic quality of the S95 is very impressive!

how about the olympus ZX-1?

f/1.8-2.5 28-112mm equivalent lens. The high ISO performance doesn't look quite as good as the S95, but the slightly fast lens should make up for that.

It sounds like the latest Canon G1X (what ever they are up to now) would suit, or if you want to save some money or have a more pocketable Camera the Canon S95 is a cracking bit of kit, however the lens is slightly shorted than the G series and it doesn't have a hotshoe.

I had a G10 and got rid as it is too big and clunky to be a true pocket camera. Now have a S90 (predecessor to the S95) and think its great.

I'd like to try a Canon S95 back-to-back with an Olympus XZ-1. S95 is very pocketable. The XZ-1 is bigger but seems to have a lot going for it.

I tried these and found the G12 / LX5 / EX1/ XZ1 a bit too big and clunky.

So S95 is only option from cameras mentioned here.

Is the Nikon 300p a viable alternative to the S95 in the real world? I know it has no RAW and a smaller sensor but it has HD video, an f 1.8 lens and a 2 year guarantee. Plus it's cheaper.

I am looking for the same thing.

Currently it is between the Canon S95, Canon G12 and Panasonic LX5.

b****r !!! :(

Soz guys but I didn't know so many more had replied to this - the email notification must be dodgy as I only just received notification re Pippy for some reason

I'll look into this later - gotta go collect some money now, my fav job :D
