Hi i have just been to my local camera shop and he has offered me 350D lens kit and a Canon EF 90-300mm f4-5.6 USM LENS for £350

now my head say's yes yes yes and my heart says wait for the 400D he's trying to get for me.

Is this a good deal do i need to worry about the body or is the 400D all round better???????

I don't know what to do, money is tight so this has to be the right one!!!

Buy my 30d body instead ;) - see for sale section

In fairness for a highsteet shop that doesn't sound too bad a deal with 2 lenses, although both are budget lenses

You don't say whether or not this price is for new stuff or second hand... but if its new then it sounds all right to me..

If its second hand then I'm not so sure..

There is someone knocking out new versions of this lens on ebay for £115 including delivery

And I am sure I have seen second hand 350D kits go for £200 on there.
So you could maybe get at least some of the kit new for less money.

However...

There is also another UK guy doing a new 400D kit with 4gb CF for £355

As are a load of others...

Hmm on the re-read i'm not sure this will have helped at all, and it will just get worse if I mention the evils of ebay vs supporting your local photographic shop...... oh well.

www.mifsuds.co.uk have a used 400d body and the EF-s18-55 lens and a 90-300mm lens - that lot comes to £370 or there abouts (plus postage if yu're not local)

More expensive than hanging around ebay for a week or so picking up bargains (and potentially paying three lots of postage), but you get a warranty buying from a shop, and chances are the kit has been given a clean out.

There is still a 350d and kit lens for sale on here - http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=63265

Would leave you looking for a longer zoom lens, but £110 to play with

I think that sounds a bit pricey to be honest.

For £350 you could get a secondhand 400D with kit lens and get better glass later.

I think if you bought the 90 - 300 budget glass you would end up investing again for the same length

i may have got the lens wrong looking at it oh its been such a day stinking head ache i i've been waiting tso long i think i'm starting to rush into it thank you so much for your advice i will get my darling sensible hubby to check out everything you've all said and get him to sort it for me. it was on a 2nd hand camera.

i'm not sure about using ebay we've had problems before and lost a lot of money, so would like to do private sale or shop (online)., for the deal!!

thank you all so much.

Although the 90-300mm is meant to be a lot better than the 70-300mm, it is still rather ropey IQ wise beyond 200mm. On the other hand the AF is very fast (with or without USM), it's light, and it has a circular aperature wide open.

I have one for sale on ebay actually £75 (shameless plug!) :)

Kerso, he's a member on here so im sure you can PM him

sorry about the lack of details ...

yeah i have done but i think i have totally confused him and myself!!! LOL i lack the technical talk you all have and don't really know what i'm talking about its all numbers to me i just piont the camera and hope for the best!!!! mostly the shots are ok LOL with me its luck!!!!!

You are young, and will learn;) Repeat after me: Aperture, Shutter, ISO... Aperture, Shutter, ISO...

Good hunting, and happy snapping! (even though you're buying Canon!!!:bonk:)
