Evening all,

I've had a questionaire e-mailed to me about being a social photographer from a freind, only thing is, what the hell is a social photographer?

If anyone feels inclined, please feel free to answer some of these below that I can forward to her. (I've left my answers in cus I cant be bothered to edit, lol)

Many thanks guys.

Kris

1) What attracted you to the field of Social Photography?

The thought of capturing an everyday moment or scene in a way that can induce thought or provoke an emotion from the viewer.

2) What other fields of photography were you also interested in?

Motorsport and Nature/Wildlife

3) What is your specialist field?

Motorsport Photography, also Staged Automotive.

4) What advice would you give to someone starting out in the same area of photography?

Keep it simple. Listen to your customer. Never be afraid to say your good at what you do. Word of mouth is a valuable tool.

5) Which format do you feel benefits you most, digital/film or is there a certain format you need to use due to the job?

As I'm constantly learning, digital is certainly cheaper, and opens more area's of experimentation. I have not yet been given an assignment which would require film over digital.

6) Where did you learn and develop your skills as a photographer?

I have never taken a course or class in photography, anything I know has been self taught through trail and error.

7) What has been your biggest mistake in photography and what did you learn from it?

Believing that the camera makes the photographer, I learnt that no matter the equipment, it what you can do with it that matters. (things got very expensive for a while)

8) What area of photography holds the most opportunities for future photographers?

This a tricky one, I've been thinking about this question for a while, I'm not sure is the simple answer. It is often believed that as cameras and technology makes every Tom, Dick, and Harry capable of getting a decent shot, professional photographers will shine even brighter in a crowd. (Lame answer I know, but this one got me stuck!)

9) What were your expectations when you started off as a photographer and are you now where you wanted to be?

I consider myself as still starting out, I started by needing a hobby that got me out the house, and as interest in my shots grew, so did the desire to get better ones. I would like to be in a postition where I could earn a living from photography, my only dilema is, if I'm relying on photo work to live, would my interest in photography diminish.

10) What is it you enjoy most about your role as Social photographer?

I'm not a social photographer, but I should imagine that the communication involved and the challenge of capturing an emotion to be both interesting and motorvational.

Thanks again!

whats that for Kris, sounds like an interview?

not sure what social photography is?

I guess it's the opposite of anti-social photography where you have to threaten your subject with a knife, slap em about a bit and video it on your phone.

:exit:

I believe it's photography that reports or records Social events - Weddings, Christenings and Bar Mitzvahs ...... gi's a job?

Yes - if you Google 'Social Photographer' you get lots of hits on events and weddings in particular.
