Hello,

I seem to have a few dead pixels all next to each other on my Nikon D40X and was wondering what I should do. They appeared at a football match today at
ISO-800
Shutter Speed - 1/2000
F-Number - F:5.6

I know they are dead pixels as they have appeared on every photo i took today.
The camera is still under guaranteed

Cheers Daniel!

Dead pixel or dirt?
Might be worth a clean first?

Could be dirt. The only problem I had with my D40X was that it constantly got dust/dirt on the sensor.

Nah Its definatly not dirt, i'll post a pic in the morning.
Cheers

Sure enough - doesn't look like dirt. I'd suggest that if it's still under warranty then you should take it back to the retailer in the first place.

Might be a bit tricky, I bought it from the Airport at Edinburgh.

Probably best to email them then, unless you can take Dixons stuff back to Currys or PC World, but I doubt it...

Faulty goods

The following are guidelines. Wherever possible we will respond to your individual circumstances.

If there is a fault with your product within 12 months of delivery (or other defect with your order), we will normally offer a prompt repair, exchange or refund. You will always have the option of an exchange or refund if the fault occurs within 28 days of delivery. In all cases we reserve the right to inspect the product and verify the fault.

To qualify for a refund or exchange the product must be:

* in otherwise "as new" condition; and
* complete with any accessories and free gifts offered with it and, if possible, the original box and packaging.

Please phone Aftersales on 0844 561 1111 (9am to 6pm Monday to Saturday, Sunday closed). If a fault occurs while you are abroad, please contact us after you return to the UK.

This promise does not cover faults caused by accident, neglect, misuse or normal wear and tear. For consumable items (e.g. non-rechargeable batteries, camera films, ink cartridges etc) the guarantee period is three months from delivery.

If a pre-recorded videotape, DVD, CD, minidisc or other software is faulty under guarantee we will happily exchange it for the same title or offer a refund.

Any refund due to a fault or other defect will include a refund of the applicable delivery charge. We will also pay for our costs of collecting goods for replacement or refund. Replacement goods are sent by standard delivery only (i.e. premium services are not available).

I got some dead pixels on a Nikon a while ago, I did a full reset a couple of times and they went.
There is also a procedure here, not sure if it will work with your camera, but its worth a read through and might help Canon owners.
Then, if all these fail, take it back

Allan
