Hi all, although a qualified MCSE in windows 2003, I haven't kept up to date with hardware changes over the last few years, as I now work in a different field.

I am in need of a new laptop for running my cs5 and lightroom 4 on, I'm sick of waiting on my current laptop to do anything.

So could you all be kind enough to post up your recommendations, please don't just read a blog, but post up personal experiences , good or bad to help me choose the right hardware.

I'm looking at i5 6GB ram, 1TB drive etc, Is this the right path or should I look at other hardware. I think ssd upgrade later would be nice, but out of my budget for now when considering other specs, or am I wrong?

Thanks all for your help

8G would be better, and try and stick to i5-3xxx with as fast a clock speed as you can get. For £500 you should get something pretty decent these days.

Thanks for the heads up.

Got my Missus a HP from PC World's sale -15" i5, 1Tb RAM, 8Gb Ram, DVD-RW for £ 399.

Do you know what model exactly?

Actually its got 6Gb RAM rather than 8, but can be upgraded.

Just been to currys, I've decided I want a 17inch screen minimum, so nowt there really in my price range. Cheapest i5-3** is £429. But 15.6 screen.

I'll keep looking and open to more suggestions

Hi Steve,

Have you found a laptop with a 17" inch screen for under £500. A friend is looking for something similar.

Thanks
