Help, can a Pocketwizard Flex TT5 system be used for manual non TTL use?

I'm sorry if I came over as harsh, but using either the ac3 or another flash as controller you shouldn't change the mode of the remote flash.

If setting the mode to manual on the remote use a PC sync lead off the trigger to fire.

Assuming you have set the Flash to Manual, and the AC3 Zone controller also to Manual, you should be able to adjust the power setting from the AC3 - have you tried looking at the tutorials on the Pocketwizard site? See here Manual mode is covered about 5 minutes in.

Hi,

Haven't used mine for a while but if I remember correctly, leave the flashes in ETTL mode. On the AC3, flip the switches to M. The wheels on the AC3 will then control the flash output manually.

Leave the flashes in TTL and the camera or a c3 will manage the power output (as manual)

Just to confirm this, I found it hard to get my head around at first, I couldn't understand how the flash worked manually from TTL mode, but it's the AC3 doing the controlling, there is another thread on here which I posted a while back about the same thing, which if I remember correctly, Phil and Hoppy explained it there too :)

It makes sense if you consider that E-TTL is the general name of Canon's flash control system, and it can control remote guns for either auto-TTL or manual exposure. Either way, the remotes must be set in slave mode or they won't respond to master instructions.
