Help!best way to connect my camera to the lights

I finally went ahead and bought a second hand Interfit ex150 MkII flash kit. My happiness didn't last long as when I tried to trigger it with the sync cables, they were not compatible with my nikon D3000. I have absolutely no idea about flash photograhpy so I was wondering if someone can help me finding the best way to connect my camera to the lights.

The cheapest way is a hot shoe to sync cable adaptor.

But having spilled a camera by tripping over a sync cord, I'd recommend some cheap wireless triggers, try Yongnuo rf 602 or 603, but there's loads of others.
 
I have this for using my Elinchrom flash heads. The controller(smaller piece) fits on your hot shoe mount and the second piece(the receiver) should connect via a cable(comes in kit) to your flash head.

BTW what Phil V says.....but not the tripping bit.

I like the idea of the triggers Phil, I can easily see myself tripping over or the dog walking over all the cables...

I have had a look at the Younguo ones, and I have another question: for the two light kit, do I need 1 transmitter and 2 receivers? As I mentioned in my earlier post... I have no idea about flash photography!

Good news - you only need one trigger and receiver. Second head will fire off the first via its built-in slave. And YN602 is brilliant value.

Less good news is some trigger sets are not sold with the cable needed to connect the receiver to the head. Check that in ads.
 
I'll disagree with Richard on this one, or at least qualify his answer a bit...

You should need only one trigger and one receiver - but some flashes have slave sensors that aren't very sensitive, and which can't be relied upon to work reliably. For the little extra it costs, it may be better in your case to buy a kit with one transmitter and two receivers. And Yongnuo RF-602 is unbeatable

I had the same problem when I bought my Interfit 300's. The sync cable supplied wouldn't fit my Canon 600d so I had to buy a hot shoe adapter (only a few pounds). Got fed up with the loose fitting of the cable. It kept slipping off the adapter. Also, it was a trip hazard (more me than the client ;)) so I bought some Yongnuo RF-603's. Work a treat.
