:bang: - wow I didnt know there were so many options for bags, and so many different criteria to choose from:

What I have is:

EOS 450D
18-55 kit lens
50 - 250 IS lens
... and not much else, a basic pettle type lens hood, couple of spare memory cards etc....

i'd like a relatively inexpensive but safe bag to store it in (ideally be able to store the camera with either lens attached at any given time!) with a little bit of growth room for any extra bits I acquire (such as flash etc)... something shoulder type rather than a ruck-sack as I think thats more multi-purpose....

any thoughts?

shoulder type - something from the lowepro stealth reporter range.
backpack - lowepro minitrekker will hold all this and will allow expansion
sling - lowepro slingshot 200AW

Other bag manufactuers are available - look at Redsnappers range or Tamrac / Crumpler.

If you've got a decent camera shop near you, go and have a look.

I'm a Domke convert, because I'm wary about theft and walking round with my kit; also because I can spot a Lowepro or Crumpler bag a mile off, and it's nice to have something different. It also doesn't hurt that Domke and Billingham have a certain 'photojournalist-chic' about them.

I've never had anyone complement my kit, but at the last Focus On Imaging show at the NEC, the staff at DSLR User magazine said mine was the coolest bag they'd seen all day... and I didn't even have my camera kit in it at the time, using it as a shopping bag.. Of course, they probably said that to everyone.. damn their sales tactics..

Some of the Redsnapper range look a bit different to the norm - eg the one Marcel posted a review on the other day. Agree with you about the look of a well used Billingham or Domke, although for the time being I'll make do with my ex-demo Stealth Reporter and Computrekker - as new for 1/3rd of new price .

Have a look at Ffords website. YThey have a lot of ex display stuff at the moment and there are some real bargains.

Chris :)

The Redsnapper SY618 is about the same size as a Lowepro Stealth Reporter 550AW and either option sounds like it would fit the bill for you.

I recently bought a Tamrac Pro 5 and pretty happy with it. Not up to the same build quality as my Lowepro NatureTrekker AW but more than adequote for general use and also pretty cheap.

I can fit 30D with grip and 100-400mm attached (no hood), also a 24-105, flashgun and small pair of binoculars as well as plenty of space for bits and pieces.
