Help/Advice band shoot, quick

Hello

Im meant to covering a gig tonight which is fine but the promoter has just contacted me and is wanting a posed/potrait type shoot done before the gig @9pm:help:

Ive got 2 550ex's, 2 brollys on stands and im working from now to 8pm :(
Had planned to get there about 8.30 and scope out shots before the gig lol.

Any ideas on a quick and basic setup to give a moody contrasty effect?

Quick thought is to side light with one reflective brolly and maybe a bit of back light and have stage area as a backdrop or somewhere "Urban looking" near the venue?

Band is a Punk outfit so im expecting lots of black or mad colours, but probably both lol.

Do you know how many people in the group? Do they want a shot with the lot of them or individuals?

Easy starting point, brolly at 45 and 45 (degrees to the side and up) as key. Then if you like, use the other possibly bare flash as a rim light or to light the background.

A gel on the background might be nice, or just use the stage lights.
 
Think its 4 in the group. Really should have asked a few more questions! wasnt really expecting the call lol.

Id guess probably a group shot and maybe a few individual ones of them doing what they do.

May be able to grab a studio head and a soft box but dont like mixing studio and strobes, never seem to balance too well.

Hadnt thought of Gels! got a pack in car thankfully lol.
 
I'd go with the more standard shots to begin with. get them in the bag and then move on to more funkier setups?

Just go with something you know you'll nail or get close and then experiment a bit more as everyone relaxes and eases or until you run out of time.

I'd suggest one as keylight from side/back and one as main from front 45 degrees.

Gels would be cool for sure!
 
Thanks for the advice guys.

Gig went quite well, got a posed shot done of each band. Unfortunately 2 of them dont look quite as good as they did on the camera, and the one that looked bad is actually the best!

Ill post them up here once i get clearance :)
