hi anyone whos reading this thread :)

I just need a little advice on whether i should either update my camera or buy better lenses first then update my camera a bit later down the track?

I currently have a 400d and 7d (which i share with my mum) but i would love a 5d!! however im only a learning and im thinking maybe i should wait a bit longer till im a bit more experienced? and buy some new lens such as 50mm 1.4 or a 100mm 2.8 macro ect..

what are your thoughts?

Definitely go for lenses. Only think about upgrading the body when you find that your current one is limiting you.

You also need to think about your subject matter. For portraits and landscapes 5D is better but if you are looking at wildlife, sports etc. the 7D is better.

Ya get the lenses.
7D is a great camera there is no need to upgrade at this stage, I'd suggest experimenting with more lenses first.

I have both the 50mm 1.4 and the 100mm 2.8 Macro L, both are fantastic lenses and recently I find myself using the 50mm all the time! :-) oh and this is all on a 7D.

Good luck

Can't disagree here - I was lucky enough to be able to upgrade from a 50D to the 5DMkii recently and it's a stunning camera without doubt, but you'll see more benefit from improving your lenses (in the short term anyway)

Plus the 7D is a great body in its own right - maybe work on improving the amount of time the 7D spends in your hands rather than your mum's ;)

We need to know what lenses you have - but given the ones you mention your thinking of buying the answer is likely to be more lenses. And to make sure you can share the 7D more regularly than you use the 400D

When I first started I got into the "new body" thing when I should have been concentrating on my lens collection. I moved from a 350D to a 40D and the first thing I noticed was how poor the kit lens that came with the 350 performed on the new body.

You have access to a decent body when you need it, even the ability to have 2 bodies if required, so concentrate on the lenses, and how they perform on the 7D. Once you are happy with your results then go get the FF body that you desire.

My "want" list at the moment includes a new body (5D2) but it's below a long lens for wildlife, a 50mm 1.2/1.4 and a decent OCF set up that will make the 5D2 really worth it.

Yep go for lenses and then get a 40/50D - the handling is much nicer I believe and it should do nicely until you have some L glass and then you can move up to the 7D/5D type of camera level.

Len's. You'll get a new body every few years. Len's last Decades.
