Was shooting rugby this afternoon & it was raining. As it was only a shower, I uses a decent carrier bag for protection.

However, after approx 3 shots the shutter kept going & would only stop when the camera was switched off. The shutter continued when turned back on!

The camera has been sitting on a oven hotplate for the past 2hrs with the battery removed & card door open but it is still poorly.

Any suggestions would be appreciated :-)

Take it off the hotplate an allow to dry naturally for longer?

I assume you we're using one of your sigmas, not sure they make the 1D fully weather sealed. As Richard said, needs longer to dry.

Hotplate is warm from the oven but will give it as long
As I can. Just hope it is damp & will sort itself out.

No, I was using a Canon 70-200 L IS which was bone dry. Only the rear of camera got a little wet.

Put body cap on and put it in some rice or an airing cupboard.

Sounds to me water has got into the shutter button.

Pop it somewhere warm to dry out longer term, I bet it recovers.

If that's the case, a good vacuum cleaner hose over the button for a few minutes may do the trick.

One to get rid of water is soak electronics in isopropanol, and then gently apply vacuum in a big desiccator or vac. oven. But I wouldn't suggest this unless you very clearly understand the risks and are trained.

P.S. You didn't use any crappy 3rd party batteries that leave a massive hole for water to drip in?

Many thanks for the advice, the camera lives in :-)

I removed the battery & left card door open & left it on the radiator which has a cover so no direct heat contact. Waited for radiator to reach temp & turned it off.

Im guessing it was the shutter button as the lens & battery was Canon & everything except the rear of the camera was protected.

Thanks agaim :-)
