I have only done photography as a bit of a hobby and haven’t been doing it for too long. I am still learning
I have been asked to do a wedding shoot for an Aunt and I’m not sure if that is less pressure or more???
It isn’t till December so I have plenty of time to learn.

I am just after as much help as possible.

Hi Daniel and welcome to TP.

Not trying to be funny, but it could be a good move to wriggle out of it.

Make a hash of that and your popularity will take a dive.

Hi Daniel,

Welcome to TP

If you are still learning i would strongly advise against a wedding in December. If you do a search on here you will find lots of threads on this subject.

I cant really back out of it, I dont think they are expecting full on professional phots just decent ones which i think i can manage, im researching loard and hopefully will feel confident by december its more the composition of the shots i need to study carefully i have a habit of finding a good shot and then rushing it.

If you absolutely have to do it as an absolute minimum you need to consider;

DSLR - Ideally with good low light capability
Second DSLR body, just in case
Some fast lenses with an aperture of f2.8 or wider (I use an f1.4 lens in churches / reg office - most wont allow flash)
Wide angle lens if you will be doing large group shots
Check to see if the venue require public liability insurance
lots of formatted memory cards and charged batteries
A plan B in case of bad weahter
A good idea of the shots you want to take and how to take them

Shooting a wedding when you are not ready for friends or family is usually a quick way to lose friends. You need to ensure you are absolutely clear about what they are to expect and make sure their expectiations are aligned to this as there will not be any second chances.

I would spend as much time as possible photographing people and geting used to giving direction, thinking about what will look good, positioning, backgrounds etc etc.

Wow thanks for that, They are expecting to receive photos taken by an armature photographer and have seen some of my work so i think they are comfortable with my shots.

I am doing a ton of research and have read everyones wedding threads on here i just need to practice on my portrait work, I’m not too bad i don’t think.

Im just going to absorb as much knowledge from you guys as i can.

On a plus side i am now more motivated and inspired that ever now i have something to work towards.

Also once i have done my firs wedding i will have that springboard to go and do another wedding

Looking at the above shots I would suggest some work on lighting and composition. The light looks quite harsh. I mean that as critique not criticism :)

Thanks, what do you mean by harsh???

I do like a bit of contrast though

It looks a bit like direct flash rather than bounced. I would post them in the people and portrait section to get other opinions as people may well disagree with me :)
